Underworld Evolution Verdict

Just gotta say I was pleasantly surprised when Evolution did not absolutely suck. It was actually a decent movie. A good demonstration of the \'sequel rule\' not applying.
:):D:cool:
I\'m sure there is someone out there that disagrees with me. Love to hear from you, as our local newpaper annhilated it, a 2/10, ouch. Don\'t really understand why it got so bad of ratings.

You sure about that? :) Surely the sequel rule is: not as good as the film that spawned it. Well if that is the rule then this one sure fits IMO.

It did not absolutely suck as you say, but it wasn\'t as good as the first one in many areas - pacing, direction, cohesion - and there was far far too much exposition. SPOILER: the only really pleasant surprise for me was that my hope expressed in this thread was correct! lol lol

That\'s a bit harsh - about the same as the consensus on RottenTomatoes though. But that\'s <air quotes>critics</air quotes> for ya - most of them are incapable of realising that just because they don\'t like something doesn\'t automatically mean it\'s crap.

I guess somewhat should officially write what the \'sequel rule\' is. Hehe...I always thought that the sequel rule meant that sequels sucked, period. But yes I agree the first movie was better than this one.

i enjoyed it a lot, kate beckinsale:flip:

the only gripe i have is that they speeded up the ending. too many films do this.

the beginning was awsome, the best intro i have seen for a long.

Well, I just loved the first one! Not only because it was a nice watch but also because it gave me alot of inspiration due to the settings, costumes etc... And Kate offcourse!:D

I\'m looking forward to the second, the trailer sure looked promising.

I\'ve only seen the first one. I will definitely make time to see pt. 2. Am I the only one who would like to see Kate Beckinsdale and Keira Knightly together in a film? Yum.

One word - Aliens

There are a lot more that suck than don\'t I\'m sure, but there are thankfully exceptions like X2, at least a couple of the \'sequels\' in the Star Wars franchise, Toy Story 2, one or two of the Star Trek movies, Terminator 2 and let\'s not forget the LOTR trilogy, some of which may even be better than the film that spawned them.

Kate Beckinsale was HERO in the Kenneth Brannagh version of \"Much Ado About Nothing\".
It seems as if there is a slight cosmetic difference between Kates nose then & now. Not that I\'m complaining, she is a pretty girl.

@einion - you forgot spiderman 2!

big fan of kate, and enjoyed the first film for several reasons. just felt that the vampires were a bit naff. i mean all they sould do was run quick and jump from big heights. they needed to have something extra (don\'t know what). just thought it was a bit crap when she got stabbed and then passed out. how dull

Saw the original on Friday for the first time.
Bought it on DVD with the intention of going to see the sequel at the flicks if the first was up to much.

Let\'s face it, inspite of a \'thin\' plot and fluffiness, what it bolis down to is werewolves, vampires, guns AND Kate Beckinsale... can you really go wrong?!!

most will probably disagree, but i didnt think it was very good. i liked the first one, but not #2. the \"plot\" was horrendous - and not fully explained (\" i will make a new race!\" what exactly was he planing on doing to his brother? :moon: ). it was just an excuse to jump from choppy fight scene, to explosion, to choppy fight scene....).
dont get me wrong - the film had its moments (eg when she takes out those cops in the woods).
but the rubber suits and crappy sex scene (dude, thats not where it goes...) didn\'t do it for me.
