Uneven priming?

So I recently spray-primed a group of minis and found out that the primer gave the mini\'s surface a rather grainy texture. Although it wasn\'t fully undesirable on a couple of them (as it gave the cloth a nice velvety texture) it was, for obvious reasons, not so nice when it showed up on bare skin.

I was wondering if it was dust or something, but I generally keep my workplace clean, and it was way too even to be dust: Any word on how to avoid this?

Sounds like (or to be accurate reads like) one of several things;
a possibility of uneven/insufficient agitation in the spray can,
humidity affecting the paint en-route to the model,
spray too cold,
model too close to the can,
GW Spray paints.

Spraying from too far away will result in a grainy surface as the paint particles have enough time to partly dry as they fly through the air. This thread has some more:

There\'s a \'sweet spot\' between too close and too far away that is the ideal spraying distance for any given paint at whatever the temp and humidity is at the time - this is one reason that some people recommend doing a quick test before priming (or spray varnishing) to make sure things work as intended.
