Unshaven chins and sculpting hair

Wh000t,

I\'d like to know how some of you people go about painting a character\'s chin to look like it\'s unshaven.

Also, how would you sculpt long hair on a mini?

Thanks!

with the hairthing i can help ;)

it depends on how you want the hair ... lying on the minis back, or flying in the wind ...

For the case of flying in the wind, drill a hole in the minis head an clue a thin wire in it. Then move the position of the wire the way you want the hair. Now you shouldsculpt a thin layer of greenstuff onto the wire. Wait until it´s hard enough to proceed (up to 2 hours) After it is hard, put a new layer on the greenstuff on it a give it the form you want. Wait some time, about 20 min and give it a structure with a needle. This should look right.
Could be possible, that you have to do this in seperate steps, cause it´s a bit problematic to do larger areas of hair like this, without ruining the texture ...

Mix a little grey-blue with your flesh colour for stubble. Then it\'s all in application.

If you\'re a guy you should have no problem ( as long as you are currently able to grow facial hair)

If you aren\'t find some pictures

as for unshaven I can say that I use a bit of black or dark brown and mix it with the skin tone. Then I have a brush with *very* short hair that\'s been rather worn out. I use it to apply the paint - take very little paint (quite like for drybrushing) and holding the brush perpendicularly (???) to the mini I apply the paint. It creates the texture and creates quite relistic unshaven looks. Then you are able to highlight/shade it.

I made several minis this way (no, the colonel isn\'t a good example - maybe I\'ll try to shoot a photo of one of my sargeants) and an quite happy with the result.

As I\'m going to have about 2/3 of my Catachan army looking unshaven, I\'ll have yet some more practice for sure :D

Apart from what has already been said, there is technique that I read in the old \"Heroes for Wargames\" book. A technique from John Blance - if you get a REALLY FINE permanent pen you can draw on stubble.

This won\'t win any prizes for realism, but can look great - for comic book type things etc...

i love sculpting hair. wat i do is form medium sized sausages and put them on the head. then i take my modeling tool and smooth them to the face. after i have blended the sausages together, i draw small groves

For the unshaven part you can go and have a look in the article section there is a great article from allan C that details exactly how to do that.
