Update: Angel sculpt \'project Mara\'

Hi all,

I have updated my website with the third installment of WIP shots of \'Mara\'. I am taking my time with her, but I am pretty pleased with where she\'s is going. First:

www.miez.nl/putty-n-paint

in the gallery are the 3rd WIP shots.

So, I mae her some hair. Well, the beginnings that is, a lot of these rough shapes need to be filled out with actual strands, but basically this is the shape of her hair. Then I made her a half-cloak. No backshot so it makes it a bit more difficult to see how it goes, but the cloak is finished. That is, the shape is finished, but a lot of sanding and scraping is still going on. The beginnings of a wing are also shown (I held it a bit low for the photos, will be slightly higher up IRL).

So, now, to make it really interactive, I am wondering about her left arm. I have a sword, but this doesn\'t work well. I thought about making a spear, and that should work well. But recently a friend suggested her weaponless, holding out something ,like an orb for instance.... What do you think?

I am also starting to look out for a resin caster btw... there is a good chance this will be cast up in the near future.

Thanks!

Well, I am not sure yet. First I have to find a caster and get an estimate on costs. I am thinking about somewhat like this: It will be limited, but it will be either a limted ed of 50, 100, 150, 200 or tops 250 pieces. I will try to have my future caster to whip em up in batches of 50, sothat I can anticipate when the sales drop significantly. Then I will make that batch the last there is :)
So, when for example there are 110 sales and then it starts to trickle to slow sales I will not extent the batch beyond the 150 and that will be the LE number.

I was thinking about something like that. Also I want to keep costs at a minimum, so I will not do fancy wrappings and such, I will sell only through my webshop... This will (I hope) keep the prices nice and low for everyone!

First that caster though :)

Hi Ramon,

Beautiful work there! Please put me down for one if you do get her cast!:D I think a lance would look rather good in that hand, maybe with some flowing barding wrapped around it.

@Ramon : if you could estimate the final volume of the mini, I could tell you how much it would cost me to make them for you ;). And the 50 by 50 units suits me fine :).

Wow! That would be great!

The exact volume Is hard to determine, but it should be well under the 40 ml! Right now I measured about 20 ml without the base and without left arm. I need soe bulking of the mini so approximately 40 ml per figure is it. Dimensions are easier. The model will be 90 mm tall from bottom of base to top of head. The wings are each 90 mm tall from top of wing to feather at the end and about 40 mm wide.

So, if you can teel me more and if you are willing to cast it please email me at ramonlaan@yahoo.com
with specifics... wow again

I\'ll get back to you right after New Year\'s Eve ;). I have to see for shipment to the Netherlands (that is where you are right?).

But do see with other people. Ming-Hua (minimaker) who lives in the Netherlands might be able to get you a better deal.

By the way, the wings are seperate pieces right?

Thanks! Yup I live in The Netherlands and yes I know Ming-Hua well ;)
I shall look into other casters as you suggest, but this is good news for me as well. I look forward to your email after newyear :)

And the mini will be in four or five pieces. Both wings are separate, the left arm will be separate and maybe the head separate from the body if needs be (hope not).

See what has been done so far I\'m definitley interested in getting hold of a casted figure (or even Two).
Just as a question have you considered alternate Left Arms?

Thanks all!

Well, it is my dream to get her casted. I find that this scale is totally suited for me. If this one will be cast up and commercially available it will be with the intention to bring out a limited edition model with a very decent price. There are enough resin models out there that are *very* expensive and are, admitted, very nice!

And if all goes well and it will become a succes in the end I may just do this once in a while.....

But this is jumping the gun indeed. First get her finished and cast up. Then we\'ll see. Of course you will all get a big heads up if and when she is released and in the meantime I will probably post some WIPs once a while...

The arm.. A lance sounds OK, but I am more inclined to make a spear or poleaxe type of weapon. It will be ornamented and unwieldy of course :) But I am also pretty inclined to do the orb thingy (will be cool to paint, from simple metallics to fancy crystal effects or even lighting effects). So if I sculpt cunningly I would be able to sprue up alternate arms/weapons... Hmmmm ;)

Please I\'m seriously tempted by both concepts as I\'m sure quite a number of others will be.
*Rubs hand in antcipation* :D

Great work Ramon! This one is really becoming more and more tempting. If you get it casted add me to the list of prospective buyers! :D

I\'ll take one too!

If you want them cast up in white metal, I can put you in touch with a very nice chap who should do them at a good price (and as many as you want - I reckon you could shift several hundred of them at least!)

Hiya!

Thanks all, this is very nice incentive to \'get on with it\' :)

I have not ruled out white metal entirely, but I am inclined to think this piece is more suited to resin... But I am pretty determined to get it cast up, adn if this happens I will certainly try to get everyone here one cast.... I will try to sell them through my website. But early days yet... this will not happen very soon I am affraid....

Thanks again...

Hi Ramon,

did you ask in Tiel about casting? I\'ve in the meantime been in touch with Historex and their casting quotation was very, very, interesting. In the end we decided to opt for metal but pricewise (for 125 casts) it was similar. Historex has a minimal quantity of only 30 figures and they have experience at casting resin figures from FIMO masters (they do Fenryll and Illyad casting). Another resin caster in the area would be the www.thefiguretrader.co.uk.

As to your figure, it looks great but the area around the buttocks look a bit odd to me. Could be the photo. Are you doing anything on the 15th? Elfwood is having their newyears meet in Utrecht that day. I\'m not sure I can come but since everybody there is interested in fantasy and knows something of artistic anatomy it could be a good place to have the sculpt checked. Note, bring a drawing block. It\'s kind of tradition to make drawings in eachother\'s books. :)

Bye, Ming-Hua

Hey, Ramon!

Well, you know I\'ve always been interested in your sculpts, and especially females with wings, so put me down for 2...

Hey Ming-Hua,
Cool! Thanks for the info... I might get back to you on that, I am also eagerly waiting on Greenstuff\'s price for casting them...
But with all this interest for it (thanks Zora :) ) I would be unwise to not have it produced in the end... I am going to step up the sculpting on her so that it could happen within a decent time scale....

And I am unsure on the 15th, but I think I can make it... Is it also a con or something? Or just a meeting at a bar or such? And I am not sure to bring the block.. I may dabble a bit in sculpting, but I cannot draw for the life of me.... :D
