Update: test shots!

In the video games jargon, it's known as "Player 2" colors. Definitely doing it as well, but they'll be different characters with separate abilities. Might get modded somewhat, as well. But at least one of the girls is getting a twin sister.

You may be confusing two different things, but there are indeed some paints which contain some "texture" material, such as finely ground rock (I guess it's that) which may do a quick-and-dirty job of faking asphalt on a flat surface. Unless there's a really cool product I'm unaware of.

What I know for sure is that you can buy bases cast with an "road" texture and paint them, and you can get a paste to mask areas you don't want painted. But these are two completely different things.

Vallejo texture pastes.

They're like the texture paint that Archon describes, only they don't have paint in them.

See here, under 'Textures of Sand Earth and Stone' for more details.

I've not got any yet, so I don't know which would be most suitable as tarmac, but I plan to get some and try some test pieces out (will probably try mixing the different textures as well as each individual paste as-is), however the Red Oxide paste looks like a good candidate, going from the picture (obviously it would need to be painted black).

save the yellow plastic for Eva that would make great business sense

Why would it "make great business sense" - it's not going on general release, so it doesn't matter what colour it is.

And, besides, Eva's tracksuit is black, with a yellow strip, not yellow, with a black strip! ;)

You're confusing Eva and The Bride. Eva's official color artwork (check the "menu" for it) has reversed colors from Bruce Lee's.

I was thinking of rebasing to resin bases (money permitting) probably starting with survivors and working to zombies, this then raises the model and, along with the textued base, gives a nice all round surface to apply a colour code to.

Hello All, I thought this a good place as any to barge in.

The plastic we use does have a "mechanical" memory. If you step on one or if you get some with a slight warping, boil up some water, pour it in a bowl and throw your mini(s) in and watch the magic. The mini will regain its initial form right before your eyes. This will also work for those who want a little variety in their zombie horde and will allow them to goof around with new poses. Take them out while they're still hot with a fork or spoon (don't burn yourself) and give them a twist to your liking. You can put them under cold water to accelerate the cooling process.

Hope this helps,
Cheers

Be careful with your rebasing. Judging by the photos of game development, the board sections get a little crowded with zombies/adventurers in the game's more fraught moments. If you go for generous bases, there's a good chance you'll struggle to fit all of your models on the relevant sections at the same time.

First of all, thanks for posting here it's always great to have game designers participating on forums.

I have a concern regarding the plastic memory you mentioned. You say that throwing a bent figure in a bowl of boiling water gives the mini it's former position back. I tried this, and it works indeed. In the past I also changed (for variety) some of my minis positions, but recently I observed that some of them (specifically, from the DOOM boardgame) reverted back to their initial position, as if the "mechanical" memory didn't really need boiling water, it just needed a lot of time (we're talking in years) to go back to it's original position.

My question is, are you absolutely certain that it retains it's custom position, even after a long time?

What I am certain about is that by heating the mini in hot water, a warped or bent mini will come back to its natural shape and pose it was meant to have when it was sculpted and retain that shape. That, I believe is the most important.

I am not certain that the plastic will retain its heat modified form (modified as in changing the pose to a different one than the original) over the years. But that shouldn't deter you from goofing around with the process : )

I hope that made sense,

Cheers

Shoogoo: I wouldn't expect them to retain their modified shape over very long periods either - but if it lasts years, you can probably reshape them when needed.
