Several friends of mine used to works there, besides.. at this point it is almost a textbook example of evac/decon operation. Anyway since Pripiat' was mentioned here are some links from my collection on the subject

Cheers for this Tim, there is something about modern ruins, which is eerily fascinating.
And yes, I'm old enough to remember some of the bombed out buildings still being around in Newcastle, when I was a kid.
The British Sea Forts have a link at the bottom about Baron Hill in Anglesey, which because of one of the comments I had to go and look up.
Now I have to admit over the years I've read some dumbass comments which have made me go WTF? but in this particular case I really have to quote this one:-
"There are also the old ruins of the family estate on Baron Hill in Anglesely, Wales. They used to own the whole island, until WW2, when the Japanese torpedoed their house and they fled to London. Its all overgrown with ivy and shit, pretty spooky stuff."
The Japanese Navy torpedoed a house? Pretty amazing that Emperor Hirohitio's navy would travel 9,362.67 kilometres (5,817.71 miles) {Straight line distance} and just torpedo a house. FFS?
And the Bulkeley family owned all of Anglesey?

excellent gallery. as a detroit refugee myself, the art of sneaking into abandoned buildings and snapping pictures is actually referred to as Urban Spelunking, and is a fairly common practice amongst the suburbanites (myself very much included)
