Using premade bases as start for custom base

Hey, folks. Long time lurker, first time poster... Usually, Google doesn't prove me wrong, so I don't have to ask questions. Today, however, I'm not that lucky.

I've been looking at all the awesome premade resin bases from the various vendors, and I was wondering if there are any tutorials or obvious examples of using a premade base as the first element in a custom basing.

Thank you.

It's not that I have anything in mind, I would really like to see what other people have done with them. I'm looking for inspiration.

Usually I end up adding some fine/medium ballast and static grass, flock, etc to the precast bases I've used

How familiar are you with basing generally? Practically anything can be added to an existing base that you'd be able to include in one you made from scratch, but for my money if I were using a commercial base - no matter how simple - I'd really want it to show, so I wouldn't add too much to it.

If you're just looking for inspiration the galleries here are a great resource, have a browse around the entries scored at 7+ and you'll see a crap-ton of great stuff.

I gotta be honest, I am not a fan is precast bases. And being that you are talking about modifying them I have to ask, whats the point of using them in the first place if you plan to modify them? I mean, I am not going to fault anyone for using them. I will be honest, it speeds up the process and shortcuts are always appreciated. I just feel better about making my own bases. And with all the bits we all accumulate modifying bases is pretty easy sometimes.

Personally I keep a collection of foamboard and plasticard scraps handy when I am making bases. As well as spare weapons and skulls. Nothing litters a battlefield as good as skulls and rusty weapons IMO.

Yeah. Saw a few rusty weapons on some of the battle fields I was on but no skulls, skellies or anthing like that.

And one line of dropped gear streatching deep into the desert.

Yes, obviously I was talking about real life and not fantasy battle fields with armies of orcs and undead or anything like that right?

GW overdose methinks.

Yes, only games workshop ever uses rusty weapons and skulls on the bases of their models. No other miniature company on the face of the planet does that.
