Using Rackham dwarves with GW dwarves for WFB

Hey all,

I\'m just getting back to WFB after a five or six year break. To be honest... it\'s the painting and not the gameplay that has brought me back. To that end, I\'m mostly interested in amazing individual models and impressive looking assembled units.

My question is this. Has anyone tried combining units of Rackham models (I\'m interested in a unit of crossbowmen and subbing Khor and Guerriers warriors for Ironbreakers) into their armies? I am confident that I can bring them together stylistically with paint. However, I\'m nervous about size differences making them look terrible on the tabletop together.

Lastly, I live on Kauai and there are no gaming shops on island. Soooo... everything I get is sight-unseen from mail order. That\'s why I can\'t self-serve on this. Thanks in advance for any advice! =)

hey

are you seriously comlplaining about living on a tropical island ???

Well, i never tried combining this minis miself but i own a huge rackham dwarf army and know several guys who own both, WFB and Confrontation.
unfortunatly WFB minis are smaller than rackhams minis and even whorse the Confro Dwarfs have giant heads ( nearly twice the size of a WFB dwarf´s head),plus the bases rackham uses are bigger (2.5 x 2.5 cm) and i don´t think that you will get them on the normal GW infantry bases to use them as ironbreakers,longbeards,... - they are to big and dynamic to fit into rank and file

i wouldn´t say it´s absolutely impossible but it would be very tricky
;)

anyway if you want to paint them, get them! Rackham stopped the production of tin miniatures and many of the minatures are alreaydy sold out,at least in my area. so don´t wait to long, the minis are really worth the price

Heh heh... yeah. It\'s a little hard to complain about the location. Although we have been driven inside by rain the last couple days.

Thanks for the response. I knew the miniatures we a larger scale but I was sorta hoping that dwarves were a little smaller in relation to biggies in the Confrontation universe. Alas...

No hope for the head thing. I\'ve noticed that the new GW dwarves have smaller heads that even GW\'s own older edition models. That being said, I still think the new GW dwarves look fantastic. I just remember how gratifying it was to feel like a face-painting rockstar when working on my dwarven crossbowmen for my old Empire army. Got to love those old big, bulbous noses, eh?

I think what I may do is cherry pick a few of my favorite models and work them up as champions or inidividual character models. Even if they never see the gaming field. That way I won\'t have to struggle with the basing issues. I\'ve read of some people ranking up troublesome minis (Chaos Warriors, anyone?) on 80 or 100mm wide bases. I could try that, perhaps.

I just love the minis too much not to toss one or two in my \'to be painted\' pile.
