Ok, instead of undercoating the models with sprayprimer, i went to the store and bought vallejo black color (negro). It is just excellent, very thin brings out the detail, beats all the sprayprimers, and games workshop chaos black. Only one damn problem, after you paint, it produces a strong and not good smell, that i cannot get rid of. What should i color is perfect though.

It seems he is happy with how the black paint work out as primer, but is annoyed with its smell.
If you\'re happy with the paints performance, ignore the smell... It will not be a problem once you\'ve covered the primer with other paint. Furthermore, if you varnish the finished mini when it\'s finished there will be no trace of the black paint\'s odour...
If you want REALLY pleasant smelling minis you could use dried herbs on the base for scattered leaves! Or you could give the mini a slight dust of perfume... :idea:

Perfume is acohol-based, the the paint would crack when it dried.

If it\'s a choice between perfume or beer, I\'d rather drink the beer and thin paint with perfume, thanks!
I find it odd that I\'m not fussed by the smell of acrylic paints at all - they smell clean to me. Whereas my brother can\'t stand the smell of them, he says they stink. Aren\'t humans strange creatures, eh?

Some acrylics have a hint of amonia smell to them which can remind people of urine.
In others the pigments can create a earthy odor.

Yep, some people are definitely more sensitive to this than others too - I don\'t know if this is due to all the solvent vapours I was exposed to as a teenager when painting with enamels but I have almost never been able to detect an ammonia odour from acrylics even when I sniffed for it deliberately.
Ultramarine Blue or French Ultramarine can occasionally have a smell like rotten eggs too.

Hey, you should try painting with albumen paints.
Never noticed a smell to my vallejos - well, not when they\'ve been adequately shaken anyway.
Can you just use an acrylic paint as a primer? I thought primer had different binding qualities allowing it to stick to the surface better.

Model Colour #973 Light Sea Grey absolutely stinks! It smells like rotting vegetation or something. Can\'t say I\'ve ever noticed that Black smells though tbh.
