Vallejo Model Colour Questions

Just got my model colour suitcase for Christmas today and theres a few bottles im unsure of the use of.

First is Foundation White and Glossy White, there is already a white included and im guessing the glossy just has a shinier finish, but what is foundation for? Is it for using on the first layer? Or for priming?

Metal medium, is this just a thinner with metallic particles? So it doesnt thin down the coverage as much?

The thinner is a milky colour, is this normal? All thinners iv seen are a clear colour. Will it affect the colour of the paint when mixed in?

Black Glaze, is this a pre thinned black paint?

And last but not least.....satin varnish, i know the effects of matte and gloss but what is the finish like with satin varnish?

If anyone can clear these up it will be a great help, thanks in advance.

I can\'t help you as I don\'t have the ones you are questioning about.

My complaint about Model Color paints are that you need to be very careful that the nozzles don\'t get clogged. Also make sure when you use them, you clean off the top before putting the cap back on....I\'ve got several from that line where paint has dried inside the cap, and I cannot get them to make a proper seal now....

Its my pressy off Laura! We always have xmas a day earlier because we are with our familys xmas day, but im at work tomorrow so we ended up having it today!

It\'s intended for priming I\'m pretty sure. You see a number of the Spanish modellers using this as a brush-on primer judging from the photos (I can\'t remember for sure from the written descriptions but I think that\'s what they said they used).

I think this is a pearlescent medium intended to be added to normal colours to make them, well, pearly!

Einion covered most of your questions, really, but I just wanted to add something about the metallic medium. It\'s a colourless (almost white) paint quite heavy with metallic pigment. It\'s main purpose is to make coloured metallic paints with but due to it being almost white it\'s excellent to use on its own for the very brightest highlights when doing real metallics.

Yea its fantastic! Iv been having a mess about with the different colours and adjusting to the metallics (they have loads of metallic particles! But they seem MUCH different to GW, but thier is alot more variations of colour)
The brushs are fine but being synthetic they are already starting to curl, but that was expected.

The clue is in the name Matty. It\'s not really as thick as paint as the \'normal\' Vallejo\'s but neither is it an ink. It sits somewhere in between the two and is a very useful paint.
Most of the descriptions I\'ve seen of the Rackham Painters techniques call for Black Glaze to act as a \"tonal balancer\" to give the impression that the area isn\'t bright shiney and stright off the manufacturers table..
It\'s great for equalising the tonality of dark colours and improving the shadow areas.
It\'s in reality a very Dark Grey and needs to be used in a very dilution.

And last but not least.....satin varnish, I know the effects of matte and gloss but what is the finish like with satin varnish?
I could be really sarcastic and say Satin. :D
The effect is a much softer semi-gloss but without the very high shine of the Gloss Varnish. It actually mixes well with other paints to give a good result. Great for simulating the effect of expensive fabrics.
One thing I would suggest - Keep a set of good brushes solely for use with these varnishes.
I\'ve learned to my cost that colour can transfer very easily even from a brush that I thought was clean.

I got it from a website a few others have ordered from there but i cannot remember where it was, they were the cheapest i could find at only £100 with free p&p (i think) il have a look to see if i can find it.

*EDIT* it was here: http://www.modelsforsale.com/catalog/index.php?cName=paints-glues-etc-paint-sets-vallejo but unfortunatley it doesnt look like they have any in stock, might be worth emailing them to check though.
