Vallejo questions ...

Hey guys,

I visited the biggest arts and craft store in town today - Hobbycraft, in search of Plasticard, which I was told by a resistant materials teacher would be found there. I\'ve done a bit of research on Plasticard, and found that it is really quite rare to get hold of, and I was rather surprised to be looked at as if I was from another planet in the store today. Oh well ...

Anyway, I also went in search for the Vallejo paints, which I have heard good things about. I had a look in the acrylics section, and couldn\'t see them, so I asked, and they still looked at me as if I was from another planet, although one of the staff members nodded and said she thought she knew what I meant. So she just guided me to the model section, and I couldn\'t really see them there either.

What I was looking for was a very distinct VALLJO sign in the acrylics paint section, so they could be easily found, but instead all I found was the Winston and Newten range (sorry I forgot there proper name!) and a few others.

I looked on a few images of Vallejo paints when I returned home, and I see that they arn\'t that clear in showing what they are, and they look like just normal acrylics, so my question is, where would I find them? Did I just walk past them by accident in the hobby store without realising it was them?

I am from the UK, so if anyone has any idea of a shop which would sell them, I would be very happy!

Well it\'s not clearly printed vallejo on the colour can, and also exists some different lines of vallejo acrilics, i have only 2 so far: you must look for cans with grey head that are the fantasy line (on the label you can read \"Game Color\" and cans with the white head that are generically for the hobby (on the label it\'s written \" Model Color\")
both have under the main big name a stilized AV that i suppose means acrilic Vallejo.

cheers

And I think Vallejo Model Color is relabelled as Andrea paints sometimes.
You could also ask for sheet styrene instead of plasticard.

Hmm..

I get all my Vallejo paints by mail order. If you live \'out in the sticks\' like me that might be the only way.

Tell us the area in which you live though and someone might be able to help. Just tell us your nearest town.

*EDIT* LOL I just checked out Hobbycraft\'s website:|~

It\'s one of those gurly craft shops that sells tat for making tat look tattier:D

They have a search engine and \'plasticard\', \'styrene\' and \'Vallejo\' all came up with a null response:(

What you need is a \'boys\' craft shop, somewhere that sells radio control stuff for example, they will definitely stock plasticard, but not Vallejo..

OK, firstly i\'m in the Northampton area, in the East Anglia Region.

Secondly, Hobbycraft is not a girly craft store. Sure they sell cotton and those kinds of materials, but a lot of the shop is full of art materials, pencils, paper, models, materials, all kinds of things, it\'s guaranteed you are likely to find the materials you need, if you are looking for any sort of, let\'s say - acrylic paint, however every time I enter the store with a clear thought of what I am looking for, I never find it!

There is a model shop very near me. It stocks all kinds of the Airfix models, the planes, boats etc, as well as many, many materials such as wood, and much paint, (although I think it\'s the enamel paint, and that is not what I am looking for).

I havn\'t been in there for years, but maybe i\'ll give it a shot!

As far as I am concerned, if it\'s not stocked to the rafters with power tools, flammable things, sharp things, explosive things and doesn\'t smell like a engine test-bay, it\'s not a proper craft shop.:D

Besides, if it doesn\'t stock anything you want to buy, why are you defending it:flip:

Yeah, I get my vallejos, plasticard and all that stuff from the model&hobby store, not the art&hobby store. If they don\'t stare at me in disbelief (me being a female) when I walk in the door, I know they won\'t have what I\'m looking for. Hehe.

I think that was the point I was trying to make without being horribly sexist...which I\'m not:innocent:

Our very own Mickc22 (search in the member list....) sells all Vallejo paints at very reasonable prices. www.nugaming.co.uk sell them P+P FREE!
Models In Motion also do free P+P on orders over £10. www.wargamesworld.co.uk are also very good.

Try www.slatersplastikard.com for sheet styrene. They do lots of different textures and will send you free samples!

If you don\'t have a credit card, I guess it\'s time to badger the oldies:D

I phoned up the model shop, only to be told they have never heard of the paints.

I\'ll try the other methods you have suggested.
