Vallejo separation

Hey guys,

I\'ve started picking up some Vallejo paints in addition to the GW and P3 stuff I have. One thing I\'ve noticed, especially with the greys, is that the paint will seperate on palette into a almost 2 colours (often a black and another lighter colour) and I constantly have to mix the separated paint back together.

This also happens when mixing 2 colours.

I read that a lot of people add agitators to VMC, is it for this reason? am I simply not shaking them enough?

eek! :D

Hi, i have the same problem mostly with green tones, i\'ve added agitators as you said and the problem is less frequent now, so could be you don\'t shake them enough. Not sure if it will be useful ,but you can also try to thin them with a thinner instead of water.

they need lots of shaking lots and lots, I always give mine a good bang on the palm of my hand and an agitator does help as well!!

a bit of spare spure would do the job anything to bash the paint around inside, a plastic BB pelett thing might be good.

Use a glass bead or something stainless steel. Other stuff can rust or oxidize and alter the color. You might try adding a drying retarder just to alter the mix.....might help the colors not seperate.

Thanks all.. I tried adding a few small pieces of sprue into the bottles so I\'ll give them a try soon. It was so annoying that each time I tried to apply another coat of paint (I paint using thin thin paint and basecoating takes 3/4 coats) the colour would be different!

Very annoying since I bought a fair few bottles and a lot seem to be doing it (mainly greys and blues separating into a lighter colour and a blackish colour).

Thanks again
