Vallejo vs GW paints

OK I am sure this has been done to death but here we go.

I have been using Vallejo the last little while and I am a little confused by all the kudos it has been receiving.

I pay more for 17ml of Vallejo so the price per ml is about the same as the 12 ml I get for my GW dollar. BUT the Vallejo is MUCH thinner and I find I go through much less GW after I thin with FFW.

Now the Vallejo bottle is GREAT and I saw the new GW bottle today (and was not very impressed-they must have had about a million of the clear plastic bottoms left over to put together such a crappy new cap).

So, I am out of a number of colours and need to spend a few bucks..... Which is better?

the ground is shaking

uh oh... do you hear that rumble? the vallejo fans are comming. i must speak quickly before they come and post a million times. buy the GW! it\'s great! ignore the others! well, actualy I\'ve never used vallejo, but I think GW paint is worth more than people say.

oh no! they\'re here! run!

Maybe the reason why your GW paint is thicker is because it has somewhat dried out... :p

Anyway, I think Vallejo offers a better coverage than GW, which is much more opaque. Ever tried painting Blood Red over a black basecoat? I think Vallejo suffers less from this problem...

About the price: here in Belgium the Vallejo bottles are much cheaper than GW\'s and have more content, so...

Both are equally excellent in their own ways...

This has been discussed in a million different threads and forums.

If you are at the point of ditching all your GW\'s because of the ridiculous bottles. Why not just get some empty vallejo-type dropper bottles and put your GW paint in there?

It\'s two thirds cheaper than replacing all your paints and you get custom mix bottles too. Just remember to strain the paint when you do it.

:innocent:

yep, i suggest you search the forums for \"vallejo\" and read the threads there instead of starting this endless discussion once again :)

i even remember there was a poll once..

Red over Black

Corvus!

Your red over black question is exactly why I started this. I have a black undercaoted vehicle and (after reading ALL these forums and giving it a chance) the Vallejo did not work any better than the GW..

So.... ?

more

Also I have no intention of ditching any. I am just low on a number of colours and need new. The Vallejo I purchased have already separated and I get a milky white film on top.

And MAN are there ever a lot of night owls tonight. I work in a few hours but can\'t put this one particular mini down.

vallejo bottles need a lot of shaking before you can use them

but they will not loose color or consistency and will not dry out over time

I bought bottles that have been on a shelve for more than 2 years and they look terrible when you buy them, but a bit of shaking and voila: the best paint you can ever want

Don\'t get me wrong: I also use both Citadel and Vallejo. IMO Citadel has some great colors, and I always buy their black and white, because those jars are so much easier if you only need a brush-tip of paint to put into your mix. Oh yeah, their inks are great as well.

Cheers,

I love the new citadel pots. :)

I\'m partial to both paints to be perfectly honest. I love GW paints because they are so vibrant and have great fantasy colors (Part of what they are trying to fix with the new release of earthier colors)

I also love vallejo paints because the bottles are so wonderful, with a dropper they are great for mixing up and the pigment kicks much booty. And yes, they shure do need much shaking before you can use them, where GW paints don\'t require as much.

To answer your question as to which is better.. I\'m not sure, I guess it\'s just a matter of personal preference.
