Valuable Life Lessons Learned From Minis...

So the other day I made a post about looking for reliable one stop mini shops. I was telling the wife about the post and she started to laugh at me, with perhaps a bit of anger rolled in. Apparently I don't need to find shops, she informed me that I am a mini shop so she made me do some inventory. So down I went to the basement and started counting...

Unopened Blisters:
Reaper: 204
Ironwind: 1
Ral Partha: 14
Hundred: 1
WoTC: 1
Citadel: 50
Crunch Waffle: 22
(OK, CW has baggies, not blisters but I'm still counting them).

Unopened Boxes:
Ral Partha: 4
Grenadier: 6
WoTC: 1
Metal Magic: 1
Citadel Battalion: 1
Citadel Army: 1

Opened (most primed):
I did a count and sort but never totaled... A lot more then what the above is.

So, the lessons learned...

1) I have a lot of minis to open and prep.
2) I have a lot of painting to do.
3) Don't tell the wife about my posts on CMoN.

Sweet jesus. Nice painting set up you have there.. but OMG you have a rack for blisters and unopened boxes in your house !!!!! Me thinks your wallet is to big for your painting capacity. Do you seriously expect to be able to paint at least half of that before you die or can you rattle them out like bullets?

Well, technically on the Empire Army I've removed the outer layer of plastic wrap, but the individual boxes inside have not been opened. I still have to finish my dwarf army (in 30 years of painting I've only ever finished one army once). I also bought it just before I stopped painting minis for around 3 years... That was 3 years ago.

On more then one occasion I've gone into closing stores and offered them around $0.30 cents on the dollar for their entire remaining mini stock. You don't get to be picky, but the quantity sure adds up fast. That's where I got the shelving (err, blister hanger wire thingies) from too, I have loads more of it (shelving) which I have to find room for in the basement to put up the rest of the boxes and such.

your wife should in reality give you a swift boot up the hole mush lol.......probably should hobble you misery style to prevent you getting to any shops until you finished that lot.

Indeed that is a link to my WIP. It's daunting but fun, so much detail.

It is from Forge World as Supervike pointed out, it's link on their ordering page is:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/WARHAMMER_CHAOS/GIANT-SPINED-CHAOS-BEAST.html

I picked it up at a local GW event (whatever they call their small local event thingies) a few years ago as I had never owned a resin mini and it looked cool so I figured what the heck. I don't actually play any of the miniatures games, but I buy a lot of them to have reasons to collect minis (which is why I went to the event, well that and the painting competition which I took first place in the 'open category' with a dwarf cannon and crew).

Sadly when I started painting again the other week and brought this big fellow out I then went and bought the newest boxes for Warhammer and 40k so can't wait to get this done to tackle some of the other new minis. Especially since my son is now getting into 40k, maybe I'll have to start playing.

Boy you will be sitting pretty when metal prices go up. Oops they already did. If I were you I would eBay all that you can and then invest into some of the better quality minis that are being produced now. Let's face it if you try to paint some of those old crappy ones you will just get frustrated and stop painting. If you could sell 30 reapers for $1.00 you could buy 1 really cool smart max. Sell $50 to $100 worth and you could buy a crew plus add ons of wyrd and starting playing malifaux which is a great game.
