Value of a Golden Demon

So how much would a trophy or slayer sword go for on eBay? Not the entry; the actual award.

Anyone pondered this? I wouldn\'t think they\'d really be worth anything to a new owner as the accomplishment and pride is non-transferrable... but people pay for surprising things.

A random thought, brought to you by the Kepco Foundation for Random Thoughtage.

PS - No, I\'m not going to sell my awards. I\'m just musing on the concept. :)

To many people, I don\'t think that it\'d mean anything. It\'s more a physical symbol of the most reknowned award in miniature painting, that has to be earned to be appreciated.

Anyone can buy a sword, but earning one through countless hours of modelling and painting is what makes the Slayer Sword what it is.

well considering where the UK slayer sword comes from I\'d say quit a lot. And the others are probably ok quality so I guess they\'de go for a fair amount.
The actual deamons well, I have no clue. The have close to no value of just themself. Piece of plastic painted :p But you never know when you\'re going to find some crazy millionaire who wants to look at one from close up :p

Thats a good question since we all know there have been thise few who have felt it was necessary for them to buy others work and enter it into the Golden Demons as their own in order to win a Demon Statue..to a person like that it may have value.

Ive herd of a couple painters who have sold their winning entry and included the Demon Statue for an extra price as the collector wanted it as a complete package.

So to sell a Demon award, who knows it might fetch a price. ultimately you as the winner needs to decide what its worth you you before you part with it.

I\'ve seen a Golden demon award on ebay. I don\'t know if it sold... I think it had a starting price around 100$

I think I would regret it much when I got older, when I loose my eyes and hands. Then it\'s only about enjoying the memory.. and that kind of thing is priceless.

Wait, wait, wait...

First of all the Demon is a Resin statuette, more precisely some kind of Foam Resin... well, at least it has been like that before about 2005... Because Demons had been casted be Bulldock (I have heard...) with a metal Base (different in different countries...) ... After that they have been casted by... surprise, surprise... Forge World... The quality now is a bit less detailed (when it comes to the \"paintjob\"...), they changed some detail...

To the Sword... every department with a Demon gets a certain amount with which it has to buy a Slayer Sword (rumors...)... Germany for example claims, that their Sword costs 3000 EURO (!!!) and it is hand made by a well known blacksmith somewhere in Eastern Europe...

Well... personall I would NEVER ever sell a Demon Statuette easily... but I think that it´s just a question of the price... I mean who wouldn´t sell his or her demon for 1000 Bucks...??... I mean if you have some...

If you won the sword, or even a demon, and worked for over 70 hours to get that prize, would you even want to sell it?

There\'s been a similar discussion on another board about selling trophies and I\'ll say the same thing here that I said there:

Personally, I wouldn\'t want a trophy of any kind if I didn\'t win it. Sure, I can probably buy one of off ebay, but so what? I got a trophy that someone else won for their work; it means nothing to me. There\'s no sense of pride that goes with it.

Or perhaps to brag to one\'s buddies about winning the daemon? But then, the purchaser has far bigger issues that the price of a little plastic statue that has been drybrushed with gold paint.

3000€ ?!? For that price, the sword had better be differentially tempered with either a sanmai, or full damascus construction. And it had better be a fully functional weapon that won\'t break, bend or roll its edge when used. And here I sit, trying to justify a $995 sword...

i believe...

I was told at a games day that the swords are made by the company that forges the swords that the US Marines also get their swords from (the ornamental ones the leaders, and generals, and ceremonial ones the marines have).

ANd heard the price is around 2000 brit pounds for 1 of them.

Demons are cast in polyester Resin, I think up to a few years ago when they had the round base they use to add weight to the bottom because they were \"tippy\" but now with the square base they are more stable. I know they are polyester because Ive seen one shatter at an event and I examined it.It was polyester resin, and it gave off the oder of polyester resin which is also a resin type Forgeworld who makes them casts with.

As for the sword, I herd rumors a few years back that the UK sword cost about a 1000 pounds as it was a true hand forged sword. I have no info to back this up or know if todays sword has that kind of price. I know the US swords given away the last few years Ive seen in Catalogs that sell replica weapons in the $200.00 price range.

As for the actual value of the award..who cares..some of my most prized awards are paper certificates or small medals worth a few dollars or less..its the satisfaction knowing that I worked hard and achieved something for my efforts and was awarded a prize that counts.

Well the swords are nominally costed at around the £1400 mark and are fully functional.....as Alberto Font can testify!

As for selling a figure, which had won a Golden Deamon, or any other flavour for that matter. It is not something I would do.
Although I\'ve been approached a few times over the figures I got finalist certificates for I will not part with them. For me it\'s a very personal pleasure to have achived something. But I can understand that some people will happily sell their winning pieces, because they don\'t have as much of a personal attachment to them as I do.

To Each their Own.
If a winner puts their figure up for sale I truely hope that they get a real good value for it, because any winner is Unique and should be regarded as such.

The UK swords are made by Raven Armoury. They are based on the Two Handed Leafblade Broadsword in the fantasy section, web site:

http://www.raven-armoury.co.uk/

If you know anything about blades than these are real items!

The statues are solid resin. I have one that Matt Parkes gave me to go with one of his winning pieces.

I am not sure how much a sword is. I do know that its bloody heavy and very sharp. Oh and it rusts very easily. :(
