Here he is finished! I reckon this is my best yet (hope you do too :D )

Cheers to Highbulp Billy for sending me the model, great gift, hope iv done it proud!

Also cheers to Jakob Rune for his excellent tutorial on metallics and comments on my past few minis which pushed me to really try hard on the metallic areas, by using purples and reds to gain tonal contrast.
And also thanks JRN for pointing out about contrast, really tried to get alot on this model by using glazes of purples mixed with browns.

Used Tim C\'s (Tidoco2222) blood method, which i think is pretty good, and only use\'s red ink and black, very simple with great results.

Plus this is the first model i have ever painted where putting up larger than life pictures doesn\'t show hundreds of flaws!

So here is the voting link hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoyed painting it!

(Four slightly different angles to try and capture the metallics, they are hard to capture properly with the camera!)

It\'s a nice mini, especially the green cloth. Love the blood, it looks \"right\" not just red paint all over it. The cream straps look a little lacking though. Voted also :)

Nice job! :D I think the skin might look a bit too.. healthy for a Dirz warrior. I\'d glaze it with purple or greens and keep the skintone more grey. I actually also think that you could add some more gore... lol can\'t imagine what little hamster he has slain to only get that little blood on the halberd ;) I like the greens, nice with some brownish shading.

I\'d agree with the assessments made so far. But I would like to add that painters like you are what I feel make CMoN so special. It seems we get to watch you progress (and so damn quickly) and it makes this place very inspirational.

Cheers Matthew!

Cheers Vikey, i have to admit i would never be producing stuff like this without CMoN, i would still be just using thick paint and just building armys!

With the gore, i just had to stop, usually i get out of hand and add to much, ill add a little more then stop again.

I have to say that I\'m really pleased that I sent you this as you\'ve done a much better job on it that I ever would have. The metals look great on his axe - \"Hamsterslayer\" lol and I have to agree totally with Vikey and Bignastyshark about you being one of the painters whose progress really does stand out. Mainly because you seem to be a 24/7 painting machine. If that\'s what having no TV does for you I\'m getting rid of mine tonight!

Seriously, well done... now send it back!

Great job.

If you want to do more blood then try the scary technique of mixing Tamiya clear red with a little chaos black on your palette. The paint will go weird and strange in the consistency but if drybrushed/stippled on carefully you get a very realistic and random blood effect...

(I used the technique on my Nurgle chaos champion for instance)

Cheers everyone!
Picked up some Tamiya Clear Red today (a steal at only £1.10!) on the way back from college so il give that a practice run on a older mini soon then try it.

Ainu, cheers for your comment. I also agree that now i am developing a certain style. This mini was very fluidly painted in about 10hours over 3 nights. Everything was just \'flowing\' naturally from the brush, no screw ups or mistakes.

Hehe Will, yea not having a TV helps, since moving in with my Dad about a year and a half ago i seem to have found much more time to do things and realised how crappy TV really is, there are a few good things, but the internet sorts that out :p
Plus my new painting desk is fantastic, being all closed off, i can sit with paints, brush\'s and ONE model infront of me, which eliminates all distractions and really helps me concentrate on the job in hand.

Also iv found that im finding out my strengths and weaknesses now, i prefer metalllics to NMM, can work well with red\'s and green\'s, but can\'t really work blue\'s and grey\'s etc ...

And just for measure here is a preCMoN model! (8Month ago):

very nice work matty.

if there is one small crit its the skin in that particually on the chest it doesnt seem very smoothly blended.Apart from that i love it really like the greens.

Yea James, get it painted lol

Just been testing out the Tamiya Clear red for blood, wierd stuff that is, stinks like vodka (but doesn\'t taste like it lol ) and has a consistency like not quite set jelly.

Mixed it with black and within 3 minutes on the palette it was unworkable, totally gummed up. Nice effects though, not going to use it on Vargas though, as the effect is completely different to the one i have used, so it might look a bit odd.

So you\'ve already tasted the TCR? :D I quite like how it tastes!

Good work on the mini! I like it! I think the leather parts, especially the gloves could use a bit more shading. The parts of the gloves that face downwards should be much darker, IMO. Have you got German Cam Black Brown in your VMC collection? I use that for shading all browns as it\'s very dark. (You can use it to shade most colours, BTW)

good results with new techniques! which of course means you\'ll only improve more and more as you get more comfortable with them! The mini looks great, I think both the forearms could take a little more care, but I don\'t think that\'s all that important considering the advances you\'ve made already on this piece.
