Hi,
My main recipe for bone was given to me by my fiancee. Its:
1. Prime white
2. basecoat bleached bone
3. wash with a mix of brown ink and yellow ink (or add a boit of chestnut ink for a different effect.
4. drybrush with bleached bone and gradually add more white until you
5. finally drybrush with white.
For a bit of variety, adjust the mix and add a little more yellow to
the highlight stage. Or you can mix a little brown ink into the
bleached bone basecoat and highlights for a darker look.
This is the recipe I used for my
dracolich with adding a little more
yellow in places for the teeth and claws and more brown for his horn.
(sorry hes a little dusty!)
You will also see that I mixed in a little pink in with the basecoat
and highlights for the wings.
Other good ways of doing bone are:
1.basecoat codex grey
2. wash with a mix of black and brown ink
3. gradually highlight up to fortress grey and then to white- you can
get a very nice smooth transition - this way is great for Lizardmen
temple guards especially for the horns on the stegadon skulls.
I also did another group of temple guards using chestnut ink rather
than brown with the main colours used for the dracolich method- these
give a nice warm bone look.
For an old weathered look like the skulls on the games day chaos dude
(on my demon entry):
1. I started with a black basecoat
2. paint scorched brown
3. drybrush with bestial brown and gradually add more bubonic brown
then bleached bone
4. wash with a mix of brown and yellow ink
5. highlight with more bleached bone and white
6. then wash again with yellow ink for that just exhumed look!
For
Hy\'Li\'Spy\'Qui
I used a layering/wet-blending technique.
1. Prime black
2. Basecoat scorched brown.
3. Adding more snakebite leather in to this basecoat, gradually highlight up using thin layers. I will generally wet blend these layers into each other to get a smoother transition.
4. Slowly lighten the colour with bleached bone, then white.
5. Shade with a wash of chestnut ink and purple ink mixed together.
6. Rehighlight where needed.
Enjoy!
