Varnish problem

I have a very strange problem here. I have finished a mini and left the paint to dry over night. This morning I varnished it with Modelmaster Dullcote, a brush-on varnish. When I came back from university, I checked my little guy. Oh horror! Oh pain! Oh time wasted! Suddenly, there were white spots on him! I found two white spots that definitely were not there before - one beneath the eye and one on the hair; the spots are a pretty large size, as if someone stabbed him with a #2 brush, and they actually look like white painted on. The areas where this appeared have completely different colours (I can\'t give you a picture because it\'s one of my Rotten Harvest entries). Can anyone tell me what has happened and what I can do so it won\'t happen again?

sounds like moisture. Humidity high over there?

One possible solution is to wait and put on a second coat - sometimes the white spot goes away.

Other option - don\'t photo from that side.

Well, I paint in the basement with a pretty high humidity, but I have not yet had this problem... until today. I don\'t think that\'s it...

Not taking a picture from that angle would pose really difficult, as I have now found so many spots that the only angle where they won\'t show up would be the bottom of the base

I have touched up the problems and I\'ll try another coat of varnish in a minute. I\'ll let you know how that turns out...

This sounds like areas where the matting agent is visible (concentrated in recesses usually). Often there is little you can do about this other than removing it, if the varnish is soluble, or overpainting if it\'s not.

To avoid in future agitate the varnish very well and apply it as thinly as possible - remember a couple of thin coats is better than one thick coat. It\'s also a good idea to varnish with an airbrush if you can.

Ironically, the text on the bottle explicitly states \"apply generously\" I shook a lot before using it, but I don\'t have access to an airbrush (and if I had, I wouldn\'t be allowed to use it...).
