Varnish

so i just applyed a thin layer of Winsor and Newton matt varnish.

but its gone shiny, now is this because its oil varnish? or have i done something very wrong? and is it removeable?

I\'ve not used the W&N varnish so couldn\'t say how unusual it is for it to come out gloss. Have you used it without problem before?

In terms of it being removable, you could always go over it with a true matt varnish if you have an alternative available. I have a paint on varnish which goes on with a satin finish and I matt it back down with a quick spray of Testors Dullcote. I\'ll sometimes do this double varnish if I know the minis will need extra protection.

You may not have shaken it enough. Just re-shake then re-coat.

Then go get some Testors Dull-Kote if that does not work :D

No. The obvious thought is that you may not have stirred it enough to distribute the matting agent.

However just want to mention that this type of varnish may not be as matt as we would generally like in the hobby (many artists\' matt varnishes are more semi-matt by our standards).

Check the label but I\'m pretty sure this is soluble in mineral spirits or turps, which shouldn\'t harm your paints.
