Oh! I was so busy posting stupid remarks, I forgot to tell you that I agree with you entirely on this!!! I found the whole thing rather disgusting and totally uncalled for. NO WONDER people think this is an elitist board

Not that I\'m defending the behavior, but anyone with an ounce of sense could have looked on the website and got a rough estimate on the levels of painting around here, and realized that posting that dred was asking for trouble.

At the moment I\'m posting, there are 61774 submitted minis on CMON. About 5230 are rated between 1 and 5, and about 20810 are rated between 1 and 6. I might be wrong but I conclude two things :

1. Most of the lower ranking painters know when they have some progress to do and post their pictures when they get better;
2. If CMON were truely elitist, 25% of the minis rated wouldn\'t be in the 5-6 range.

I\'m sorry that thread went ugly and we probably lost a member, but I still stand by all I said and I honestly think I respected the 3 rules of the forum. May I remind you that when you subscribe to CMON, you must be 18 years old or more.

Now that you say it like that, Supervike, I feel ashamed to have posted something derogatory in that \"pro-painted\" thread. :(

It just irks me that there are so many people who paint at most a 5-6 and think they can paint as well as the \'Eavy metal team. I\'ve met plenty of people like that.

Personally I\'m surprised that people are still offended when mediocre paint jobs are described as \'pro-painted\'. That term has been so derided on every mini-related message board I have ever seen it should be synonymous with mediocrity(at best) to everyone. Expecting \'pro painted\' to mean display quality is like expecting \'going postal\' to mean mailing a letter. I would only be offended if an 8-10 rated mini was described as \'pro-painted\'. lol

As to the board, I think people here are exceptionally helpful, and the extreme rarity of incidents like this remind me of how welcoming this board generally is. No matter how many times people ask which paints are best, I don\'t think I have ever seen anything but sincere answers. Clique-ish, maybe, elitist, no.

You know, Herb\'s got a good point here. I don\'t recall ever seeing another thread turn the way that one did, slamming a newbie for \'misrepresentation\', or whatever. Cut yourselves some slack, this is not the norm.

GS - Just for my own satisfaction, I went back and reviewed the thread and your comments in particular. It was just as I had rememnbered it. You are quite right! You respected the rules of the Forum. Your comments were well thought out and, While critical, were constructive and not combative. I wish I could say the same for all of the others.

My primary complaints with the whole incident were:

1) The \"Trading Post\" Forum is not really the approriate place for that discussion.

2) It was a Newbie posting. Newbie\'s are notorious for making blundering errors of ettiquette and should probably be cut some slack. A little guidance would be a good thing. A group of \"regulars\" bashing him over the head with sledgehammers and, more than likely, driving him away is really NOT very helpful and DOES make us appear to be elitist.
Note: As I said above, I think your comments actually fit into the \"guidance\" category.

3) I think the reaction far outstripped the \"offense\". You would think this poor person had sauntered into our midst, declared us all to be goatf@#kers and taken a sh#t in our swimming pool!
All he did was have the nerve to use the wrong word. HEAVENS ABOVE!!!! And perhaps overestimate his ability. It\'s not like he was asking $240 for his dread. $40 is not way out of reason. Yes, it was not GD quality. It was table top. Your estimation of 4.5 is well within reason. Those who argued that it was well below table top (say a 1 or 2) I guess just frequent a LOT better tables than I have :D

I just don\'t think it was our finest moment as a community. :(

I\'d also like to point out that my statement above was not meant in any way to offend any goatf@#kers. ;):innocent:

Yeah, but do WE need to be the Simon Cowells of the painting world?

\"I\'m sorry, I know you think you\'re good, but I\'d paint better with the brush up my arse.\"lol

I think it\'s okay to say \"that doesn\'t look like it was painted, but photoshopped\", to make them truthly advertise their minis.

Just no need to be RUDE. Unless they started it!

[EDIT] Dauber: no offense taken. Thanks!lol

I think you\'re quite right there. On another forum I frequent people who ask questions very frequently get hostile replies telling them to f*ck off and search the forums/look at the pinned threads instead of asking stupid questions that have been answered a thousand times.

The people here are generally very understanding and do their best to answer all questions asked, even if they\'ve been asked many times before. :)

Eh..what?

As far as I am concerned the site has been really calm, but that is primarily because access in England has been so slow as to make it inaccessible at the moment, unless you try in the early hours of the morning as I am doing now.

And as a semi-pro goatf*cker Dauber I take offense that you think I might take offense at your offensive and goatf*ckerist remarks!;)

Therefore nullifying both offences and making everything A-OK.

what\'s GW asking for a dread these days? isn\'t it about $40 just out of the box? personally I\'d think an assembled and painted dread would be worth at LEAST $45-$50 just because that\'d be that much less work you have to do with your army, especially if your army is just tabletop quality anyway.

I rarely if ever, rant about anything, you can check through my 5000+ posts to verify that. But PLEASE, lets not attack people like that. If you see it happening, tell a moderator, or better yet, speak up and ask the offenders to pull back a bit.

I have just finished reading all 5000+ posts, it\'s true, Super doesn\'t rant.

Dang - look what happens when Becca starts school! I\'ve noticed a definite drop in civility and \"niceness\" when she\'s not around to defuse the situation.

Unfortunately, since I\'m a rabble-rouser myself I don\'t help at all! :p

I think I\'ll go away for a while and see what trouble stirs up while I\'m gone! :D

About my post, i was just saying thanks to Vikie and pleading to the community. Seems that one topic, lead to three that completely flopped the forums and he did his darndest to restore what i consider a great place to be a part of.

Here\'s to many more \"cute\" conversations and booze pouring:flip::bouncy::flip:

I am glad you qualified that Itchy..

I have to admit that, to a bear of my small brain, your original post appeared to be a criticism of Jim, who occasionally appears to be the only sane person around here...

I think this board is special because everything that happens seems to be in spirit of the board. That\'s why I love it... I never been to such a vivid and diverse forum really.

Everytime there is one of these arguments someone complains that it isn\'t like the good old days... :) But really what are the good old days?
