Another lovely lady :)

Here\'s a quote of what I wrote on my site:
This was started almost two month ago and was about 85% finished, and it took a lot of willpower just to get the last sections finished off.
When I started the painting I took a lot of influence from Seb Archer’s, Ali McVey’s and Thomas David’s version of the model (notice the blood splatters.)
I wanted to go for a forest style just to prove to myself that I could do a scheme which wasn’t set in the desert, as my other Ilyad figures are. This allowed more scope in colour with a lot of browns, greens and yellows.
Purples were used extensively in the shading, and doing the tabard in the same colour really brought out the purples in the metals and the cloak.
The setting is meant to be in the Autumn/Winter change over, where fresh snow is starting to fall, but the plants and leaves are in the final stages of dying.
There is definitely space for improvement, the boots and purples possibly the most, but I cannot motivate myself enough to change anything now. I am just happy to finally get this to a finished stage.

Huge pic\'s as usual! (sod the fecking scores)

MATTY!!!
my brother from another mother...

ya really went to town on this chick...very experimental...the different colours in the fur is cool...always good to see someone go in a completely new direction from what\'s expected...
i\'m not feelin\' the purple cloth though...it looks a tad rushed...
i dig the details...the blood spatters, and the tattoo...very nice...

cheers

Nice work, Matthew! I was just wondering earlier tonight when you would show some of your own work for a change! ;) And, a short while later... here it is!

It seems you have started putting more depth of tonal range in your work, compared to what you brought to Paris. That is good! I think you can bring up the highlights of the skin a bit further still, but this has better contrast and better smoothness (it seems) than your earlier stuff.

Interesting way to paint the fur! I like the look of it, even though the green hardly makes sense (minor point, though... aesthetics is more important than reason! :D). I think it\'s fun to see different ways to make that rather big expanse of fur more visually interesting. I\'m not really sure how I\'m going to tackle that problem on mine.

Like Jah, I\'m not that fond of the purple. I think it looks ok on her loincloth (even though you could have brightened up the highlights on the upper folds a bit), but I don\'t really like the other spots of purple that much.

Lastly, I just have to point out that your copy of this mini seems to have an air bubble right on her exposed nipple! :p

Good work on this one, and it really shows some big steps forward for you.

Hi Matty
I like the overall colour scheme you have really pushed the experimentation on her. I think you could of probably kept it all toned down, not such extremes.
I am not fan of the purple either, I think it may have worked better as a darker shade maybe.
The contrast needs pushing up a few notches aswell.
Please don\'t take these critiques as bad, I think in rl this will look great, but with such unflattering and honest photos I can only call it as I see it.

Basework is great as usual, I really do need lessons from you.

The paintwork looks quite \"rough\". I am not sure if this is due to the roughness of the cast, lumpy paint or a really bad photo.

Great work despite my critiques.

The roughness seems to me as if it\'s caused by the primer.

Cheers.

Nice to here I am improving :)

Yea I think it\'s a primer thing, It doesn\'t show in real life but that close up is about 10x the size, same with the smoothness of the purples, they look much more effective in 1:1. The photos on my site are a bit more \'real\' (but only in the fact they hide a few things)

The cloak colours were meant to be dark and light, greens for the light, browns for the dark. But that went all a bit tits up and I just ended up shading and highlighting both colours as if they were mid tones.
I suppose it could be some sort of camo cloak :)

The air bubble on the nipple...yeah, what a crap place to get an air bubble! I never noticed it until painting so I just treated it like a freehand scratch, highlighting the edges. Its so small on the real thing it\'s hard to tell.

I\'m going to work a bit more with purple on my next model as that and blue has always been a bit of a problem area for me, so Il get a bit of practice with it.

And I should have this at Salute and World Expo, so you can get a proper look.

All in all, i\'m just so pleased to have finished it lol It\'s been almost finished for so long, that i\'m just not bothered about it anymore, you could post massively harsh crit, and it just wouldn\'t phase me!

nice work. i agree with the comments about the purple. love the fur. it\'s a shame about the roughness of the undercoat.
