Here\'s a 3up of a Viridian Marine from the VOID game box I finished yesterday:

I started out painting him up in a SW Stormtrooper stylee, but got carried away dirtying him up. Still a few bits to do, but I\'m bored now.... :)

As usual some lovely work.. The white works really well with just the right amount of weathering..
Nicely done in the size too.

excellent painting and the weathering on white is very realistic. On another note, where does one get 3-up scale minis?

Incidently...why do companies use a 3-up?

Can\'t remember now. Something to do with the mould making process for plastics production. There was a good article in an old WD which showed how they made the Tau Hammerhead, and they had a 3up of that:eek:

I\'ve got another one to do. He\'s helmeted with a shield and a bolter-a-like. He\'s going to be black :D

Nice smoothness , the chips and weathering on the white armour is effective and not over done. The flesh tones are really nice too. Dont forget him on Tuesday :)

Great job, like the white armour alot.
If I remember rightly, I read on the old Ikore pages that when they sent the stuff off to China to be cast, no-one remembered to tell the casters to scale the mini\'s down, so they produced alot of over scaled plastics, Ikore lost alot of money and the error was one of the things that contributed to them folding.
How many other mini companies work from this \'3up\' method? Ikore produced some really nice stuff.

A 3up is used when making the molds for plastic figures. The 3ups are sent to the mold makers, who make a mold of it, and they use a pentograf (sp?) to trace the 3up mold and on the other end of this tracing devise there are small drills that drill out the steel block, following the trace of the 3up mold, to make the 28 mil mold.
After working for GW for almost two years I\'ve come to understand that sculpting for plastic is a completely different thing to sculpting for metal.

edit: nice paintjob there, but maybe the guns are a little overweathered? They kind of lose their shape a little. But I like the clean white, very nice.
