I should just stay the hell out of this...
But I\'m a stupid git, so...
I am offended by the \'America\'s lap-dog\' comments. Aside from the little scuffle 230 years ago, we have always held Great Britain in the highest regard. American history books gloss over most of European history, but focus HEAVILY on the English-French conflicts. It is easy to see why we would find them so important; we played them against each other in order to become a nation. Since that time, however, we have had excellent \'familial\' relations with our British \'parent\'. There is NO subserveience to us that I can see. The English come to our aid more because \"their child has gone and got himself in trouble again\" then because our boots taste delicious. Great Britain is in a unique position between us and Europe, and I don\'t think they want to OR SHOULD become part of either. This would not benefit them in the least.
Now Canada AND Mexico ARE slowly being absorbed by us. I\'m sure our Canadians friends will find this offensive, but the fact is we have had a conjoined military since the 50\'s. If the USA goes to war Canada doesn\'t even get to choose as does Britain, we share military bases with them so they automatically become involved. Since NAFTA, Mexico will also most likey join with us evetually. They have to, all their people want to become American anyway. Because of the lack of bad-blood between us (forget the Alamo) these things are possible, but Europe has to much history for something like this to hold together very long. Think USSR, the beuracracy would become so top-heavy it would fall over!
And If we think of England as our (dottering) old Papa, then I guess that would make France our bitch of a mother.
Just an opinion, from \'this\' side of the pond. - Mark.
