Volczek; A scratchbuilt bust

Hi All

This is a sculpt that was originally inspired by a head sculpt SBS by the late and great Roy Hunt on another forum...and my version eventually ended up as this. I did finish the sculpt over a year ago, but only decided to paint him a couple of weeks before EuroMilitaire

I experimented in using an airbrush to block in the fesh areas and to add some highlights and basic shadows; the speed at which I could get a good coverage let me get quicker into the interesting part of painting.

I found a design online for the tattoo the night before I went to pick up Ritual from the airport....so yet another last minute paintjob. And the name of the piece was a last ditch creative brainstorm while filing in the entry forms at EuroMilitaire (cheers Anders)

I\'m glad I did come back to him because it\'s a good feeling to finish a totally unique piece. I know it\'s full of flaws.....but next time I\'ll do a better job!!!

Nice one Rob, MAin thing that gets me with this is the ear, looks a bit like he has done 10 rounds with a boxer or been in a scrumm all his life.

Otherwise I like him :)

ears.....ugghhhh next time it\'ll be a figure without ears! Or I\'ll find a smarter way of doing them.......

Scott....he got a commended in the scratcgbuilt/converted sci-fi/fantasy category......so against that rather splendid Gigantic Dark Space Marine.....so I\'m happy!

I imagine that Space Marine buy Giganticdark has just begun it\'s slew of winning.

Great work, and I like the cauliflower ear. It makes sense for the character.

Yeah, the ear looks a bit strange, but when you see this in real life you don\'t think about it as much (or at least, I didn\'t). I also think the addition of the ear ring also helps to draw attention away from the ear itself.

But as an aside, ears can sure look like that. Back in my wrestling days I knew tons of people who got cauliflower ear. It\'s gross man.

I guess we can conclude the ear could be interpreted as a damaged ear.....but in reality it\'s poor sculpting....!!!! Thinking about it it might have worked better if I had given him a few scars....

Mick....no scale...just did it! I was surprised how big he was when compared to JMD busts so will try to sculpt something smaller next time
