Voting and fairness on CMON

Serious SOLUTION

I think actually, there is a serious and very good solution to this.

Allow people to upload entries without the voting active on them. In other words, people can see the figures and comment, but have no way to hit a vote.

I would love this. I would actually enjoy this site again

Calm down. If a topic titled \"Fairness and Voting on CMON\" pops up, just don\'t read it if it bugs you so much. It\'s just as imbecile to bitch about people complaining as it is to complain about one\'s scores.

I figure instead of worrying about the small number of sniper votes, something I can\'t change, I\'d worry about finding ways to get the majority of votes to be higher (ie better paint jobs and photos!).

I think the real disservice snipers cause this site is that it discourages honest comments with critisism since you don\'t know if the owner of the mini might be some ass that decides to snipe rather than take the comment and try to improve. As a result, most minis have no comments and those that do are simply praise. And while it is nice to get comments which are simply all possitives, it\'s usefull to get critisism to help improve. I\'ll take useful over nice any day!

The wildlife enforcement officers in Alberta have realistic decoy animals to catch poachers- how about we set something up like that where we can jump out of the bushes after someone snipes the dummy pic and saY HA GOTCHA!lol
That or we should set a sinpe range where bored snipers can freely blast away-- jeeese guys- go play a video game or something:]:wow::duh:lol

Hopefully, when they plant me they won\'t be saying he was a great guy, but he never got better then an 8 on CMON.

In the context of this site, there are more interesting things to be on about, like painting techniques, style, articles, and actual interesting forum topics.

Hard to believe more people are bitching about sniping now than not winning the GDs.

Perhaps we should have a separate rating system for whiners? The more you bitch the higher the value? Heck, it could be called the pro-painters category for extra value.

A system like that would gather all the \"I deserved better. WAAAAAAAH!\" in one place so they can pat each other on the back.
It could be sponsored by Prozac too. They\'d make a mint!

If you don\'t like the site, leave. It\'s a free service from Chern-Ann and has done nothing but good for the minipainting community. It costs nothing to post here. Constantly bitching about how unfair and horrible the system is an outright slap in the face to its creator. He could shut the whole thing down tommorrow and not loose a bit of sleep.

If the bitchers think their idea is better. Go ahead and code, maintain their own version of CMON. God knows there have been enough fly-by-night sites similar to this in the past.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said Miss Angel. I was swayed slightly however, when I looked at the mini posted by Kaple. It is really good and he is really new. Being disrespectful was not an option....You have to have clocked at least 10 posts before I give full vent

I think a serious point has been made however. Unless borg or Chern Ann object, I may well direct future posts to one of the many, older threads which cover this topic and cap them off. I see little point in revisiting this twice a week

The problem is of course ... what should be done when one of the really seasoned punters have one of their regular, scheduled \'blows\'??? :bouncy:

You know what. I think the best way to solve this problem is, well, to vote more often.

Yes, if all the masses vote, then the snipers will become insignificant. How often do you vote on top 10 last 7 days, or support artists that you think deserve better. You can vote higher on someone that you think deserve better. There are like 13000 members on this site, if 10% of you would vote, then there won\'t be enough snipers to make a difference. Exercise your rights, together with what is already in place, the snipers will get tired. Talking about this on a daily basis just encourages the offenders and make them feel that they are defeating the system. Just my 2 cents, but that alone would be a quick fix.
