I'll x-post airbrush query

I'm swamped by the large amount of adverts for airbrushes and all their amazing uses.

I'm looking to pick up an airbrush simply for basecoating 40k minis. I just would like to achieve a nice smooth basecoat without laboring for hours with the brush.

Anyone have some brands they enjoy using just for base coating?

Thanks!

If you have such a beast, I have!:

Pretty much everything in the Eldar line in multiples.

4000 points of high elf miniatures again, more or less everything in the line.

Older edition (arabian nights, ice age, fifth edition, a box of 10th edition (opened) a tournament dredge deck, dual lands etc.) MTG cards.

Vampire counts skeletons and ghouls, along with a few characters.

Also have $$ (paypal).

Thanks for reading!

My airbrush isn't for sale or trade, but I'll offer a recommendation...

I have a Paasche VL that I like a lot. It's a double action airbrush, so you can control airflow and paint volume easily.

It's great for basecoating, but with a little practice, you'll be able to achieve some really nice effects (especially on vehicles and such).

If you get an airbrush, I think you should consider spending a couple more bucks on a moisture trap. In my personal experience, it's not super important if you're only basecoating with acrylics (since you thin them with water anyway), but is pretty important if you really need to control paint consistency or plan to use other kinds of paints.

You can pick up a VL for around $50-$60 new or can get some real bargains on e-bay... sometimes half of new. The only thing with used is that you don't always know how they've been cared for. A bent needle, bad seals, or a bunch of dried junk inside the airbrush makes for a lousy experience.

Actually, I just looked and there's a new set on e-bay for about $40, and a used one for $15...

Good luck to you.
