Hi all,

This is my second post on this forum and I'm still trying to figure out how everything works around here. I'm trying to post some pictures of my Wood Elves right now. Any feedback whatsoever will be appreciated.

They look really nice, very clean and well blended.

You could look at adding more shadows to the skin areas though as they are quite flat on those pictures.

hi and welcome to the forum! I like the smooth, comic-like painting on your woodelves (something I still need to learn ;) )You even made the bowstrings, which is definetly a plus on the rating. I

I paint my thumb.
Nice colors, neat painting.
I'll echo the comment about the skin, and maybe add some variation in tones to make the skin more alive.

I'll copycat what everyone else said. James Bond-smooth! Got a quick overview of your process of what you do to get such nice results? Get a solid background behind them in your next pictures if possible too. Looking forward to seeing more.

Hi all,

The bowstrings are made of two superglued very fine pieces of rope, because one rope wasn't sturdy enough: it would break easily otherwise. But yes they should be a bit thinner for a more realistic look.

As for a quick overview of the progress: I sprayed them all black and then started with very dark base colours. The brown started with scorched brown with chaos black, the turquoise with turquoise and black, the green with just dark angels green. From there I used a lot of layers and finished everything with a glaze of the base colour (scorched, turquoise and snot green).

Got any tips for a 'solid background'? I do not really know what you mean by that, sorry.

Cheers and thanks for the comments!

Really nice, smooth colours. They look really 'Wood Elfy' to me.

What is the orange and red scatter stuff on the base? Something you bought or made?

I bought the scatter stuff, it's autumn coloured foilage from G-force if I remember correctly. And some GW static grass.

Are there any Photoshop tutorials on Coolmini you know about freakinacage?

Cheers!

Hi Cosmic, welcome to CMON :)

Lovely looking elves there, I'm painting some Glade Guard at the moment too, they don't look quite as shiney as yours though :( I've had a bit of trouble working out which patches to keep which colour, yours provide a very handy guide, thank you!

Show us what you did with the cloaks then! And did you use the chameleon standard? I'd love to see how you treated it.

Cheers, B.

Your welcome BPI, glad I can help.

Perhaps I will take some photo's of the cloak tomorrow, because I don't have the right light right now to take any pictures. The colour recipe is quite simple: start with chaos mixed with turquoise, than build up to turquoise and from that point on keep addig white until you're happy with the result. Finish with a turquoise glaze, grab a dry brush and empty the recesses with it: the glaze should blend the highlights, not replace the shadow.
