Hi :brushlick: So some issue with this range. I do love them and keep coming back to them but..... Has anyone found the following and/or solutions to them?

1. If you go back over them with anything like water the dried ink sometimes crinkles. What's going on there?
2. Is there anyone who knows how to seal them... Perhaps helping with no1...

cheers

Hmm maybe seal with acrylic matte medium out of an Air brush...? You could also add it to the ink and it might stabilize it, but then it won't flow as nicely...That works nice for acrylic inks but I am not sure what it will do for the W&N inks. I have some Dr Martins Inks that I think are similar but I have been afraid to use them afte experimenting a tiny bit.

I am interested to see what you find out.

OOh what about sealing before you apply the ink? That way the ink wont interact with your paint. Maybe that will prevent your crinkles?

Thanks Demihuman - I think the issue Im having is not that the inks crease/wrinkle the acrylics underneath - its when I try and layer a deeper or another tone over the top of a dried layer of ink. I guess I could seal layers of inks seperately....

Since W&N inks are Shellac based, water based acrylics will break the shellac surfacing.
i don't know of a way around your problem off the top of my head other than testing on a non critical piece.

Mikes right other than you sealing it with an enamel varnish I cant think of any way around it and from experience enamels and acrylics really don't mix well on the same mini. Best to use a non shellac based ink unfortunately.

That was my fear - anyway im persevering - it seems that as long as I dont pool areas (as with many layering techniques) then the wrinkling doesn't happen - wil lpost a pic in a mo.

Nice drangonseach - non critical. Interesting concept. Well
it seems testorsdullcote although dulling the deep colours too much does t crinkle. Also a like Vallejo satin spray similarly works as a sealant! Will try going over with layers this afternoon and report back!
