the more 000\'s the fewer the bristles. depending on what material the hairs are made out of, this does make the point finer.

I\'m pretty attached to my 00 size, though I have a 1 and a 000 I use on occasion. As long as it keeps the point, I can do almost anything with my 00.

As for having trouble finding the brushes, as a retailer the biggest problem is finding a good distributor. Don;t even bother with direct! At $2000.00 minimum order from W&N themselves it\'s way outta our league. Most art supply distributors seem to want huge minimum orders, though not THAT huge, and for a small game shop it\'s tough financially as we only need a few things, not a huge art supply order. Especially for us as the distributor keeps being \"out of stock\" on the other size brushes lately. Arg!!! It\'s one of the reasons I started selling on ebay...only way to make minimum order and keep the cashflow moving.

hrmm

i supported my local art store, because they stock everything I need, I don\'t mind paying $2 more here and there to keep them going because

a) they support the community of artists by having a flyers board, give regular discounts and give good advice

I suppose this is the same of any local hobby store etc.

I think it would be scum of me to get advice from them then go online and buy.
I agree with you about being out of stock though... when I picked my brushes I was lucky as only ONE of each in the box had a good point on them...

that said I did buy my WN7 miniatures online because my store wouldn\'t take orders on those brushes (I understand why now that you say they have a $2k min order!!)

Used SN7 mini & round

I have three SN7 - 000 & 00 min, & 00 round. I bought the normal from my local art store and the two minis from http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/special1.htm.

The name is kind of deceptive. They really aren\'t miniature brushes, they are spotters, as opposed to rounds. Think about it - spotters are made to make SPOTS. Very tiny dots of color. You can\'t really do much else with them, like paint big areas.

The rounds are for laying down controled amount of color. That\'s why most painters like the rounds more than the spotters.

I paint more with my round than my spotter. But I use the spotter for really fine stuff. You have to be VERY careful about the paint consistancy, though. Too thick and it will dry on your brush before you use it. Too thin and it glops right out and messes up what you are trying to paint.

Personnally, I think that when you get to the more expert methods of figure painting, it is basically watercolor painting on a three dimensional object. (Wish I had studied watercolor painting.)

That\'s why the WN S7 is so prized - it is the best watercolor brush in the world.

Hmm, i have got the Miniature ones... #000, i got it in London from an Art Shop on Portobello Road which is close to Hyde Park and Bayswater. I\'ve been doing some serious blending with it and it works great.

If you call them they\'ll send you a free catalogue, and shipping is free over £35. 0800 731 4185
I guess they don\'t have a website then?
