And they shall mutate and from them spring the first Orcs.
Green Pigs
Green Pigs
I think it is to do with producing stem cells from these animals which glow and using them in their research with \'normal\' pink pigs. The glowing ability allows them to track the growth of the implanted stem cells... or something... been out of the biological loop for a while nowOriginally posted by Ogrebane
I would like to know how splicing jelly fish and pig genes are going to help cure human diseases.
Yep. Rather like radioactive oxygen is used to track molecules and metabolism in organisms.Originally posted by Avicenna

They explain it later in the article. Because this is a more noticable mutation it makes it easier to track through generations than, say, just making improved stem cells immediatly. If they did that they\'d have to do biopsies and invasive (aka expencive or complicated) procedures which is much harder than just shining a blue light on little piggies to see which pigglets inherited the green glow genes.Originally posted by Ogrebane
Of course you would notice that Vike its your sort of humour.

Grmbl, why do they always mess with animals? This has no purpose, just plain fun. Just leave \'m.

Because a handfull of bunnies, rats, or pigs isn\'t that big of an impact on the species, especially when they birth in the dozens (There\'s an old Catholic/Irish joke in there that I\'m not touching). Also because there are so few governments out there willing to allow human research to be done without proper evidence already being in effect.
Have a look >>here<< on what is stem cell therapy. That\'s the searchers\' goal. Having them glow green with a special light is only a convenient way to identify them. These pigs don\'t suffer inhumain treatment and except for wild pigs, most pigs finish in people\'s plates. For something that can save or help people, it could have been a lot worse.Message original : Fayarin
