wagon wheel creation advise

Hello I need some help creating a wagon wheel by scratch (the type of wagon wheel with wooden spokes). I\'ve tried creating one out of miscellaneous pieces of wire, wood, etc... with no luck.

An example is this chariot wheel from lord of the rings:

Thanks Ryan.

I would do it with Balsa wood for the wheel ( thicker Balsa) and spokes (thinner Balsa). The metal around the wheel with a stripe from a cardboard. Then adding some Greenstuf for the details.

Have you tried casting/moulding one...?

Pressing a mould should be easy enough as the wheel is fairly 2 dimensional

wheels are pretty hard to get right.
as suggested above use balsa wood, green stuff and cardboard but score a grain into the balsa wood and coat it with a couple of layers of PVA.
- Balsa wood will take ages to get a good paint tone if you dont do this

make a mold outta sculpey or similar product. Use the rim of a jar pressed into a surface as your wheel rim, use match sticks or something similar to press \'spokes\'. use a needle or other such implement to very carefully score you\'re wood grain finish.

Once cured you could use the mold to do both sides (if thin enough), alternatively sculpy the reverse side whilst your item is curing int the mold.

At least i know what i mean :)

That\'s pretty much what I was talking about, but I was thinking of using an original wheel :p

using a model will be far easier than the matchstick method but i would love to see your results as i have never tried casting something like this.
