Hello everyone!

Ok, I took all your advice and remade the base. Keep in mind that I am not good at bases but I did what I could and came up with something that I think everyone will be happy with :) I am glad I remade the base because I am really beginning to understand how glazes and nuances can bring life and interest to whatever part of a miniature one wants. Hopefully my next mini will showcase what I have learned.

Ok enough talk. Here is the old base.

imo i would of added a few smaller rocks around him and maybe a bit of static grass,

looks good though

Base is much better. I\'d like to echo what Sam said about some smaller rocks and patches of grass.

Keep it up :)

I still do my bases like the original picture and they often look too . What did you use for the rock in the second one? The second one fits with the mini more and is a lot more subtle than the original. Really nice painting too :) love the greens and the smooth transitions.

Wow, your blending is getting better and better. The new base really helps the mood of the mini and ties everything together nicely! Now just concentrate on the light and shadows and you will be made in the shade...so to speak!:D

Thank you for taking a look and tell me what you think! The pics are a little blurry I will have to work on that.

@Enzed: The rock on the new base was an actual slate rock. I tried cork for the first one but I cannot make fake rocks look believable I thought I better use a real one :D Luckily there are a boat load of small slate rocks around where I live so I just stare at the dirt and look for good rocks. People walk by me and probably think I am crazy.

@Ollie: I tried to practice what we talked about a couple weeks ago and it works pretty well. I definately need to work on lights and shadows in certain areas. I had a bit of trouble with the cloth for some reason.

Hopefully my next mini will turn out better. Confrontation minis have so much detail that it is hard to pick them all out and make them look crisp but I did what I could and I will only improve if I keep fooling with them. The next mini I am working on is from Enigma, which has an insane amount of detail, so I hope I can paint it at least as well as this one.

I really love the colour of the armour and very well executed.. the skin tone as wel works great all told I like this piece very much indeed..
I echo the other suggestions of a ouple of smaller pieces of rock and some grass patches but thats fairly minor.. great job.

I used both primers. Black as the main basecoat and then lightly sprayed with white to help define highlights and shadows. I still have trouble deciding where they should go sometimes.

I do that as well.. I\'ve started using Grey primarily now but still do a spray from underneath to start with Black....:D
