want to thin

One word of caution on using water--some folks have \"hard\" water from their taps with lots of chemical deposits. I am fortunate in that my water is not hard, so I also use it extensively.

Hope this helps,

Dont quote me on this one but I seem to remember hearing that rubbing alcohol can be a good one for thinning some paints.

Allegedly, Rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl?) Is good for thinning down tamiya paints. It\'s cheaper than the tamiya thinner, and tamiya paints have on the side: Warning: Contains Isopropyl and Glycol ethers.

Since I only use tamiya smoke and transparent orange, (hats off to jakob nielsen for that one) I\'m just getting by on tamiya thinner, and water. You get a much flatter finish if you thin it down with water, but it acts a little bit odd.

I\'ll second Klute; water and flow improver. The flow improver just lets the paint flow more easily, making it go on more smoothly and also less likely to pool.

There are other things that people add to paint, but the more you paint, the better idea you\'ll have of how you want the paint to work and a better idea baout the effect you want to achieve. Everyone has their own special thinning mixes which they use for different purposes.

And welcome, zaitsev!
