Warboss conversion - he\'s big an\' mean!

I bought a warboss from a mate of mine over in the U.K. so that I was able to actually play the game.

I was fairly impressed with his sculpting abilities, as that whole thing is done pretty much from scratch on an armature, so I sent him the big boss to see what he could do. ;) He\'s going to be using his greenstuffing abilities, which are far in excess of mine, to finish the pants off, seal up the abdomen, smooth the musculature out a bit, and maybe ork up the head some.

I\'ll be getting it back from him and using my plasticard skills as best I can to armor him up post-sculpting in \'eavy armor, give him some proper weapons, and base him. We\'re thinking if it goes well I\'ll make a resin cast of the boss and he\'ll get a copy.

Warboss Conversion

As much as I hate thread hijacks, I wanted to post to say your WIPs have been a great inspiration. Enough so that I decided to take your pic from your musical Squiggoth thread as inspiration for my Chicago GD single mini entry this year. It made honorable mention so I figured I better give credit where it\'s due. Keep up the good work!

You should\'ve given him a tyranid tongue and Kiss makeup!

Love the gretchin on beneath :D lol

My warboss (Now named \"Gargrim \"\'Uge\" Mungus\", as you might glean from my slowly developing army backstory) went to bonny Scotland where Gizmo\'s now working on him. I get a few new pics from him on what seem to be a daily basis, which is nice, as I can give him a fair bit of feedback about things.

We\'ve chopped both his hands off, and for good reason! I was inspired by this little bit of artwork...

which I found at this site, and I thought it might be worth taking the boss in something of that direction. Or at least the power fist! So, off both hands went, chopped at the wrists. Gizmo\'s going to completely sculpt a new left hand for the boss to hold a choppa in, and when he sends the model back I\'m going to plasticard up a power klaw of similar design to what you see in that image above and fit it over the stump on the right arm.

Gizmo, in the mean time, has been working on the legs. He capped off the toe of the unfinished boot and has been putting the foundations for pants onto the model\'s other side.

More folds, patchwork, and stitching will go overtop of this, and the boot\'s going to be capped off with the square chunky teeth like on the illustration. We\'re also going to remodel the cloth around his waist to sit a lot higher, and maybe cinch it with a belt.

Gizmo and I have been chatting for a good while about the Boss while he sculpts things, and it\'s looking good. There\'s a bit more to be done with the pants and boots, but it is coming along really nicely, and Gizmo\'s really good about me being a huge pain in the behind with particular details. I\'m going to post the pictures again, as I\'ve got them on my host...

He\'s already doing a vastly better job than I could have done, I\'ll tell you guys that much. There\'s a bit more to do on the pants (around where the boot and the bottom of the leg joins) and he\'s cleaned the tread up a bit since those photographs.

It\'s looking really good, though, and I\'m glad he\'s coming along. Stuff like riveting on the boots and all will be delayed until the boss\'s trip back to the states, where I have the bits and plastic to do such detailing properly.

So, let\'s dig this up.

I did do a fair bit of work on this project before I realized I was in a bit over my head; none of the heads I had in my bitz bins were even close to right for this gigantic body, and a lot of the musculature that I had dremelled to shape needed a fair bit of resurfacing.

For this, I went to my good buddy Nozeminer over at The-Waaagh forums. Noze is a talented sculptor with an eye for detail and I managed to get him to agree to help me with the project. Off the boss went, with my fingers crossed.

I got the boss back today, and I have to say he did an astonishing job. He smoothed over and redefined all of the musculature on the boss\'s back, and sculpted a brand new face for the warboss that looks much orkier than the preexisting troll head. I have to share it because of how great he looks.

Here he is with an average marine:

He may not have any forearms or hands yet, but I\'m pretty sure he could bludgeon the marine to death with the stumps if he wanted to.

Noze added in some fangs on the lower jaw, but they broke off in shipping and I couldn\'t locate them in the box. This isn\'t such a huge issue, as I\'ll simply carve some new replacements out of styrene.

Now for those of you who might not be understanding the forearms thing, the reason the sculpting stopped there is because I intend on manufacturing a pair of gigantic bionic arms and fists that join onto the body at around the elbow area. (Part of my Boss\'s fluff; he lost both arms, and has huge mechanical replacements). This will probably not be coming immediately just because I want to finish one other project I\'m working on at the moment first, but aside from that it\'s at the top of my to-do list, because I very badly want to paint this fella up.

That is one of the most bad ass conversions I have ever seen!!! In the beginning I was not too sure how a Dire troll would work as a warboss but you handled the solutions brilliantly. The shoes and pants that you made look terrific and your friend finished off the musculature perfectly. I am tempted to do something like this for my orks now.

The only thing I can say is make sure you give him and axe fitting of an ork with that much muscle.

Also I think you should make him a big shoota type gun and use a battle cannon for the barrel of the gun. :)

i especialy like the really small ears, they make him look like a dumb brute, don\'t you dare change them.

are you going to bend the fingers into holding stuff, or will you sculpt new fingers around the weapons?

all in all, a terrific build, cant wait to see more.
