Hey,

Forgive me, I know nothing but nothing about WH but I\'m painitng up some Wardancers and might start playing soon. Can you tell me what good having a wardancer command group will do for me?

Thanks!

MC the WH noob ;)

As far as I know you can have a musician and a champion only in the wardancer troop. No standard bearer. (I could be wrong, its been a while since I read the book)

The champion will give you extra attacks and allow you to issue challenges. useful if you want to take out specific characters. the musician is useful in that it will help make drawn combats swing in your favour.

Honestly I don\'t know if I would take either, but I\'m not a wood elf player.

champions cannot issue challenges.
they may accept challenges, but not issue them.
musicians give you +1 to your leadrership when attemting to rally a broken unit as well as the other mentioned benefit.

when was that. As far as I was aware a champion could both issue and accept challenges.

Please point me to the page?

Thanks for the info. :flip:

Do most of you agree with Hoblit, that the command group is not such a great choice? Do you think a WD command is a popular addition to an army?

For hand to hand units, the full command group is usually a good idea. Unless you are making a unit strictly for screening or sacrificing, you are not likely doing this with a wood elf unit. The champ gets extra attacks without needing another base to be in contact, quite often this is not possible. So it is quite a good bonus in and of itself. The answers are all in the fantasy rulebook, you should read it cover to cover if you are just starting out.

Here\'s the deal. I now have my book with me so I can make some decent comments.

Wardancers die to shooting. so, for 14 points, you can get 1 extra attack, or for 18 points you can get the extra model, which will give you 2 extra attacks. ( Gotta love wardancer weapons) and an additional casualty.

You can\'t get a standard as it is not a choice.

The musician can be useful, If you flee, you will be rallying on leadership 9. However, if your wardancers flee, you\'re pretty stuffed anyway.

Wardancers need to make the charge, and you are going to have to be breaking units on the charge or holding them in place to get more units into combat. using them for anything else is going to be a waste.

Id take the champion if the points were to spare, but he wouldnt be very high on my list... Id always take the musician!
Because you will miss him if you dont!

errm... what do you mean breaking units? i'm just curious...

Breaking as in breaking from combat, i.e. fleeing (or just crumbling away significantly in the case of daemons or undead). Basically, you need to beat your opponent (decisively if possible), 'cause Wood Elves just aren't very good at prolonged close combat, especially if you face one enemy unit with one of your own. Remember, 2-4 Wood Elf units vs one enemy unit is a fair fight as far as WE are concerned. The champion's additional attack and the musician just make it that much more probable to win an assault, even if it's just by +1.
