Warhammer & Hell Dorado fast paced battles?

Hi, I was really surprised last Sat night to discover that two of the guys I work in a band with (the drummer and trumpet player) both love gaming and game regularly. Also, Wesley the incredibly gifted trumpet player told me he was interested in painting minis! This is great news to me as this guy is awesome at Celtic knot work and is a gifted artist as well. He asked me to set him up with an army so we can start painting and gaming. I was thinking about the few times I gamed 40K while at uni and always felt the games went on for too long.

Are there ways of modifying the rules to organise short fast-paced battles with small armies? And if so, what would I need to get set up? I was thinking, I have a skeleton army and a necromancer. So couldn\'t I just set up a small skeleton army with a necromancer leader who can summons up his army of the dead to fight for him? I\'m very interested in Hell Dorado as an alternative to 40K as I love their minis. Do any of you guys & gals game with Hell Dorado? And if so, what would I need to get set-up?

One last thing, I\'d love to show my mate some pics of some cool minis with Celtic designs on them. Can you please send me some links to amazing minis with this kind of artwrok on \'em. Thanks!!!

Cheers,
Chris

Granddad!
You could try Warhammer Skirmish, you only need a few minis and the playing area is usually 2\'x2\' for most of the scenarios
or just play 500 pt battles for now
you may have to hunt for the Skirmish book, doesn\'t seem to be on GWs website anymore

this is from the Oz site

I agree with Mick about Warhammer skirmish.That\'s what I had in mind though I haven\'t played it myself. You could also try Mordheim. You can Google up the rules and also optional and fan rules for all the warhammer armies for a Mordheim band.I remember having much fun with my orcs ransaking the streets :D. Also you could try Confrontation as it is a skirmish system. Check also out the older Chronopia and Warzone games.Real fun.(www.princeaugust.ie) A word of advice though from someone who have already been there. If you plan on sticking to skirmish don\'t overdo it with your units guys. I have played 5hour skirmishes in my younger days simply because we wanted to field every single mini possible and we always played to last man standing becaude there was no such thing as an objective.lol

Well I am a fully registered full on Warhammer Fanatic, so I will reccomend that game before all others. When starting out playing I would heartily reccomend people playing with unpainted models. It looks LAME but it can help fuel the fire for getting a fully painted army and then you still get to experience the game of warhammer on the typical army scale.

Helldorado! I am with you, I am intrigued by the awesome range. I was forwarded to this link.....

Which is the English rules for the game. They\'re unavailable for purchase as they\'re being translated (The guy doing the translation is the one who gave me the link). I however could not get the link to work, but my computer is a POS and it might\'ve just not worked for me. Price is right anyway!

Good Luck! I\'ve found that a great way to keep the creativity and the paintbrushes moving is to try and oprganize as many group paint sessions as possible. Good times!

....There\'s Alkemy too...

Advantages: It\'s pretty new, so there aren\'t too many minis to get to grips with yet and it\'s quite quick. The minis are pretty nifty too imho.
Disadvantages: They\'re a bit new, so they\'re *ahem* finding their feet and sometimes this reflects in their customer service. Things happen.... eventually....

Thanks

Great to hear all of your ideas and suggestions. I think I\'m going to go with Hell Dorado. I found this cool download: http://helldorado.fr/ressources/telechargements/telechargement_id19/fichier.pdf

I\'m really really impressed with their line of minis and the game looks to be fast paced. Also I bought a box of \'em when I was last in Melbourne. Warmachine looks okay. But to be honest I generally don\'t like their line of minis. Anima Tactics looks cool, hopefully down the track I can pick up some of their minis and paint them up. Also, I love the Alchemy stuff. So maybe down the track I\'ll give them a go?

If you have any suggestions on how to set up a basic Hell Dorado unit for battle I\'d be happy to hear what you think.

Thanks also Scott. It\'s good to know that I\'m not the only one who thinks Hell Dorado is producing some intriguing stuff with an interesting game to go with it. I\'m going to go with the Mercenaries. They\'re some seriously cool minis!!!!!

Peace...
