Warhound Titan help needed!

About one and a half year ago I bought myself a warhound titan from forge world. I wanted to do the very best painting work possible on it so this guy at my local store who owned a airbrush was going to help me but he never had the time to do so. Now I\'ve lost contact with him so I\'m turning to you for help because I know some of the worlds best painters are members here. I have nine years of painting expierience but not in big vehicles.

The first thing I need help with is the legs (excluding the armour plates). I want to paint them completely in oily, rusty and dirty metal. Something like this: Forge World\'s titan
I\'ve basecoated them black so far but I\'m not 100% sure what to do next.

can\'t say much....

But if you check out the top 10...there is this awesome forgeworld grey knights dreadnought. Done in metallics with washes over it. There is a tutorial at this site that talks about weathering, rusting, etc metallics via ink/paint washes.

ForgeWorld Grey Knights Mark IV Dread:

At a very basic level, I would suggest reading that and checking out the dreadnought pics.

And regarding your comment on the best painters being at this site; I\'m not one of them *cries* so if you try something I suggest and it doesn\'t work out, I take no blame for it :) :) :)

Thanks for the links StarFyre. But the use of almost only washing seems a bit simple to me. Someone suggested to use a wash of thinned down Tin Bitz for example. It\'s mostly tips like that I\'m looking for.

i would try building up to a dark silver from tin bitz. then a couple of washes of black and brown to darken it up and then highlight again with silver

Nice link MalleusMiniArt

Guilliman: Ever thought about commissioning a painter to do it for you?

You are unlikely to get a \'blow-by-blow\' account of how to paint a titan I am afraid, especially as it seems you have a particular finished article in mind.

Even if I could afford to pay someone to paint my titan I wouldn\'t.
And I\'m not asking for help to paint my whole titan, just the metal part of it, for now. I do however believe (prove me wrong) people use a different kind of painting techniqe when you paint tanks and all other kind of vehicles and it\'s that tecnique I\'m not very used to and need help with. I guess it\'s because of the topic\'s name some people understand that. Maybe I should change it.

i think the title\'s fine. also, look at jacob nielsen\'s site for a great metallics tutorial. i don\'t remeber the address but i\'m sure you could google it

some thing to keep in mine once you find the dirt and rust you are looking for is to go back and where the pole gos in to each piston to make a section of clean metal as it will keep being rubed as the piston gos in and out.
