Cool, I hope it can be replicated. If it is it would be a great example of that whole Scietific vs Religious thread from a few weeks back.

But we\'ve known about tunnelling for decades. Even transistors were developed using tunnelling, if I recall correctly. This new \'discovery\' only illustrates that tunnelling works over greater distances than a few microns. Also illustrates that tunnelling is faster than the speed of light, something that we perhaps weren\'t aware of before.

I reckon that the real trick will be when tunnelling can be predictable instead of probable. Now there are a whole shitload of theories that would violate.

There has been experiments done before where the scientists claim to be able to overcome the speed of light under very particular circumstances. But they have either been wrong or it turns out that when you look at the experiment from outside the frame of the experiment the limit of speed of light still holds. I definitely think it\'s too early to draw ant conclusions from this. But it\'s an interesting experiment! :)

Well, personally I\'ve always felt that Einsteins Special Theory Establishing the Speed limit for the Universe was a bit off - look at everything else they have said was a limit and how it no longer is one.

Personally, I\'d just love to see evidence of dimensions 5 through 11. One of them is bound to hold a lot of socks.

How? I don\'t recall any religious book that says \"Light shalt not travel at X\" As a religious person I don\'t care how fast it goes. The article is neat, but doesn\'t refute any religious doctrine.

Not being more than a lay physicist, every science and astronomy class I\'ve ever taken has listed the Special Theory of Relativity as the source of 186,000 MPH in a vacuum as the end all be all speed limit for the universe.

The part of the discussion where it was pointed out that Science is mutable, how it\'s all theory and they change when new evidence presents itself.

Hmmmm, a new thought: does the photon actually travel faster than the speed of light, or is the travel instantaneous? If instantaneous, then it actually doesn\'t have a speed at all, does it?
