I just started doing my first wash, and this is what happens.

The ink is Wonder Wash Original. When I try GW\'s Black Ink, it\'s even worst. What am I supposed to be doing?

Thinning Your Wash?

Are you thinning your wash down with water? Having played with my washes before doing any serious painting, it seems that a 10:1 water to paint/ink ratio works best (especially with the GW inks, which seems super thick).

You\'ll have to apply more layers to achieve the depth of color, but you shouldn\'t end up with tons of blotching.

The instruction on the Wonder Wash says use directly. How much should I be thining it?

If it says \"directly, then 2:1 water to wash should be about right. Also, try not to overload your brush. Use a napkin or coffe filter to drain off excess liquid and then paint in the recesses.

one other tip is that even though it is a wash you don\'t typically want to just slop it on...you wanna basically focus it on the recesses. Put a touch (and I mean a touch) of dishwashing liquid in it to break surface tension and avoid tide marks and then get it into the recesses of the model. Alternately you could slop it on and then fairly quickly go back over the raised areas with a clean and relatively dry brush to mop up the excess. You\'ll have to dry and redry that mop brush as you go but it should do the trick.

Another tip (thanks Jacob N.) is to use a small amount of diluted washing up liquid in your washes to break surface tension.

You will find the wash doesn\'t gather together so readily and it leads to a more even finish.

Secret? Hell, its just a guess based on my experience with similar products. But the key here probably brush load. Less is more, as long as you keep the brush damp.

yeah it looks like too much paint on the brush to me

Okay, I thinned the ink 2:1 into a pot and added half a drop of dish washing liquid. The pot still looks black but when I paint with it, I don\'t see anything at all. Does this sound about right? How many coats do I need to do?
