basically how can i get my colours to look more realistc in my photos. At the moment they are very washed out, how could i get some richness back into my pics??

I have a pretty basic photo set up at the mo, i have a few lamps but they are very yellow and i dont like correcting this in the gimp as the colours still dont look right. so i dont use these much, i usually use daylight.

Cheers guys

If your camera allows set a custom white balance. If this isn\'t a feature, then you should be able to correct for what will look like very pronounced colour casts from incandescent bulbs; if you post an untouched photo I can show you what adjustments should be capable of achieving.

But adjusting the white balance in-camera will save you a lot of time and generally give a better result.
