Washing or lining?

First of all:

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

That being said, back to the real life

I have primed my Ultramarines with the Army Painter Navy Blue spray and I want to keep them really basic to get an army fast, and here\'s where you guys and girls enter the story:

Should I wash the miniature entirely with a light layer of the Asurmen Blue wash or should I only put it in like the lines between blue/gold parts or like leg armor / knee pad etc.?

Advise please!

I would only paint a line. Because space marines shoulderpads (for example) are flat and the ink on there might go to the edges or if its really really wrong, the ink may stay in its place, where it will dry up and you\'ll end up with ugly pigments around the darker blue where the wash was.

Also, how light/dark is Navy Blue (I\'m only familiar with GW Citadel painting range). If its a little darker blue, I wouldn\'t use Assurman Blue. I would go for Badab Black in that case or maybe even Leviathan Purple.

And merry Christmas to you !!

My opinion would be that lining will look better and washing will go faster.... got to make a choice :p

Cheers.

a good wash with a darker blue should settle into the creases and againsts any ridges - resulting in an increase in contrast between the two areas.

Space marine armor does not lend itself to dry brushing to add highlights. Those have to be done by more time consuming methods.

You said you wanted to field an army quickly. I\'d wash it in dark blue (almost but not near black). Very thin so you see almost no change in color on the flat areas, yet gathers well in the creases.

Let dry, clear krylon matt (dull coat if you can get it.) and play. Should be one night of washing and drying. One night of clear coating.

Granddad!
what Airhead said,
the guys at GW Maidstone have done an entire Lizardman Army, that was used for Games Day, just doing base colors and ink washes, and then picking out the odd detail.
They turned out really well, more than adequate for gaming with

Used properly, the new Citadel washes can make some really good looking armies very quickly. Asurmen Blue mixed with Devlan Mud, Badab Black, or Leviathan Purple or whatever to make it a bit darker would probably work really well for you. Ultramarines look really good when they\'re nice and dark, not the almost-pastel like the old scheme.

Thanks for all your input! I\'ve deceided to give them a quite thin, dark blue wash (Asurmen + Badab or Gryphonne). I\'ll try to post some pictures tomorrow or something like that (work bloody work today and a family dinner after that = zero time to paint).

Cheers!
