Hello my friends and well met...

Long time reader first time poster here, looking for a lil help please.

For some reason I cant get the mixture right when I want to wash a color onto a mini. Can anyone give there best ideas on how you all may do it and what you use? I seem to either ruin my mini becasue I didnt dilute enough or I dilute too much and the wash washes off without leaving any color...

Mind you I\'m no goatman...

I wash mine by feel and don\'t know the exact mixture I use.
But I can tell you that if I use too little water I usually use a bit more water and push the wash where it\'s too dark to a darker section where it\'s supposed to be.

you should try to do a couple of layer of diluted wash, it will build up slowly and you can stop once you reach the desired color. And welcome to the Cmon forum friend

yes thats good advice. definitly less is more. it also gives you an oppurtunity to use a few different shades/colors for a bit of depth.

I dillute opaque, darker colors, and usually just paint them on where I need them, like shadows instead of using inks. I don\'t like the fact no matter how much I water down inks, they come out glossy...

chrispy! mate! i\'ve told you how to fix that! vallejo matte medium 50/50 then thin with water.

Magic Wash, as listed in the Articles

I can\'t stand the smell of the inks from Reaper and GW. I\'ve started mixing my own ink/wash using paints and the Magic Wash mixture listed in the articles:

This mix is also good to extending the drying time of your paints or thinning them to get a smoother application.
If this is too thick, then I add a little water to it.

I can\'t give you an exact mixture for two reasons. One is that I don\'t know the exact amounts, and the other is I usually do the mixes from Liquitex Basic paints, so it might not be the right proportions for what you use, anyway.

Well I\'m probably not the best person to ask only just having started painting after a 10 year break. But that aside the most success I\'ve had has been with Liquitex matte medium, future flooor finish and games workshop ink at a ratio of 5:1:1 it does take several applications to build up any real color which might not be to your liking though.

Doesn\'t that mix come out shiny? I\'ve never tried it, but that\'s what I heard.

I thought about doing the Future thing, but I didn\'t know what the correct ratios were. The Magic Wash had mixing instructions, so I went with that, and I like it, so far.

I think practice is the big thing. Find something you like and do it until you are satisfied with the product.

HELLO ALL! My first post here EVER and i just hope its some help..

I like to make my own washes with this recipe

I use 1 part liquid future floor finish to 3 parts tap water.

I then use 2 parts of that thinning solution to one part paint.
