washing up liquid

I\'m sure i\'ve seen it said that people have put a drop of washing up liquid in their paint mix I was just wondering why??

well ive used it in a few of my washes, basically i think it stops the surface tension, reducing tide marks

Am i right?

it reduces surface tension and makes the paint go into cracks and the recess. it also stops it from pooling.

I tried this for the first time yesterday, if you are a brush licker you will be in for a nasty suprise!

I had been told that the washing up liquid only works in inks though, and you would need something like future floor polish in paints.

Never used the stuff myself so don\'t take this as gospel! Can anyone else offer advice?

As a surfactant (sp?) (surface tension reducer) a little bit goes a long way.

My reducing formula generaly includes one or two DROPS of dish liquid per liter/quart of magic wash.
I\'ve also been known to use W&N Flow Aid.

And it will work in paints as well as inks.

so what the general feeling is that you can\'t just whack a bit of washing up liquid in, didnt get chance to try it out was at work till late :flame:. This magic was of Future floor polish and distilled water does anyone know if you can get hold of future floor polish in the U.K or an ulternative?

in the uk it\'s known as johnson\'s klear. as with the washing up liquid, make up a batch and store it in a jar. you then can have it premixed and can use a drop whenever you want

i tried it out a little while ago, it works well, a tiny bit on the brush and u only have to touch the paint and it instantly spreads out, its pretty neat. as for applying it i find it helps to keeps the paint going on smoothly, it doesn\'t bunch up, it spreads nicley. sometimes you get bubbles but they go away.

Is that the dish soap added to a water+magic floor polish or is the dish soap instead of future?
