Wasteland Rose

Hey everybody,

this is my first Post and my first miniature I ever did show on the internet.

I started painting about 2 years ago when my girlfriends little brother started off with Warhammer 40k Orcs. I never quite got around to like that game but well I wanted to encourage him to get off the computer and to quit world of warcraft ;) So I got meself some Tau and got so bloody bored while painting them... I could not get myself to finish my 500 points army.

Didn't really do anything paintwise for a year, found those hasslefree miniatures and massive voodoo on the net and had to start again. As I am a big fan of those little pieces I started to build a little surrounding for Rose and I actually am quite pleased with the result.

But I want to improve my painting and everythign else. Please help me by critizing everything you think I could improve. Starting with the overall composition, painting.... everything.

and please excuse the bad picture.

I think the base works well, it gives the sense of being alone.

Anyhow, the painting on the figure is really nice, love the lenses on the mask. I do think that the rock needs a bit more diversity. Maybe deeper shades or brighter highlights.

nice the lenses really pop and the skirt is well done, great work for someone who hasn't been painting for that long :)

Congratulations on the figure, she is very well done.
A small criticism would be that the base scene is a little too large for the figure and she almost gets lost in it.
However a trick which would make this work and improve the appearance is to make the base darker in tone to the figure so that she's almost 'spotlit'.

And as for your horrible English..it's far better that some of our native speakers.

I also agree that the base overwhelms the figure, but like vikey, I agree that it works well in the scene. People also don't realise how frikkin small she is

Thank you all so much for your feedback! And the compliments do mean a lot to me.

I know the base scene is quite enormous for the little girl, but I was indeed trying to get a feeling of being alone into the whole scene. I think I will try a second rose on another base about as big as this one but with much more contrast between the miniature and the scene, like Dragonsreach proposed.
I don't thnik I will rework this mini to be able to look back at it and use it as a reference on what I could improve.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers,

Rusty

Very nice model. I think the base might work better if the yellow drum at the bottom wasn't so bright. It kinda draws attention away from the girl. That might make her stand out more.
