Water Base

Here is a WIP of a Collectors Edition Grumlok and Gazbag miniature that I am doing for a commission. This is my first water base so I need your help or insight as to how it looks or what I could do to make it better. I sent my client these pics and havent heard from him yet but if he likes it I am not gonna change a thing, but I would like to know what I could do different for the next one. Do I need to change anything or is it fine the way it is. Since it is strictly a display piece I decided to use a display case for baseballs and built it right off of that so that the whole miniature can be covered and protected from dust. Good idea or bad idea? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

sweet looking so far! My only gripe is that the lip of the hill at the back is rather square looking, kinda unnatural. maybe some rocks or foilage could cover it a bit and break up the line?

Looks pretty rad Anthony. I dig the baseball case a lot!

Base looks good. I think some of the flocks are a bit too vibrant, maybe a wash or drybrush could help.

Looking at it again, I agree with Baz, the hill on the back looks too unnatural. Nothing some more flock wouldn\'t fix though. Then again if the customer is pleased with it, no point in having to put in the extra work. :p Love it otherwise, and the mini is also coming along very well.

Granddad!
why can\'t we have cool stuff, like baseball display cases :(

what you could have done at the back was, make it flush with the groove the lid goes in, then just smooth it off and paint it black. So long as you give it a slight angle towards the front of the case the lid will still fit

looks pretty good so far

I think it\'d look better if you added flock or something to cover over the metal that joins the figure to the base, I can see the tag between his legs

Thanks for the comments guys. My client loves it so I wont be changing anything on this one but may change some things around if I do another. I think I will bring the ground out closer to the groove next time so it looks more natural and I am gonna replace the bright flock with darker flock. The tab is not what you see under the Orc but a stick that he is standing on. You do have a good eye though.

Thanks again guys
