Water Effect Waterfall

Hey guys,
I'm currently working on a base for my FW (Contemptor?) dread and wanted to do some water runing off a ruin down to the ground to splash in a puddle. I have been using a line of really thin thread (the type you can use for magic tricks) attached to the ruin and just running the effect down that. Problem is I'm really struggling to get any sense of motion in the water effect. Can Anyone offer any tips or maybe point me towards a good tutorial on such things?

I'm also planning on doing a waterfall on the base of my fulgrim mini to represent his arrival on the maiden worlds. If anyone would like to contribute any ideas on how i could really cement the idea that its a maiden world. Thought about adding some sort of webway portal but would rather keep it looking as natural as possible and am a bit worried that the portal and waterfall would make the base too cluttered

Thanks in advance as I'm sure i'll get some great responses :)

Thanks for those links. Loving the super old skool GW paints used in the first one :p Hopefully I should have a top notch base in no time now :p So much to learn about this sort of thing. Never really paid much attention to bases before but really enjoying the added atmosphere it can create for a mini

one tip I read about watereffects: leave a small amount in the air before using it. As it starts to set it'll begin to flow less and less. In effect at the end even a product like vallejo-still water can be used like a water-effects product.
The flow on the pictures were made only with the Vallejo-Still-Water.

They look pretty good. I have a bottle of the GW effect that a friend has donated so i'll use this to try this out as i assume that they cant be too different from the vallejo one.
I have also heard of using a acrylic medium to create the splashes and bubbles. Could the same thing be achieved with glaze medium?

GW purchased from Woodland scenics and this meterial needs 24 hours to set.
Pour in 2-3mm depth and allow to sit overnight. Repeat as needed.

I have also heard of using a acrylic medium to create the splashes and bubbles. Vallejo produce a very thick white paint for Water effect splashes /snow. It can be an absolute bitch to work with if you expected, like I did, to get smooth effects. The intent with this paint is that you work it like an IMPASTO effect in small scale then it looks 'right'
Could the same thing be achieved with glaze medium? NO Glaze medium is an additive you put in a colour to thin it out to the level of a glaze. It's not a paint in its own right.

One of the easiest materials to work with for waterfall effects is Woodland scenics Water Effects, Spread it out on Cling film (Ceran Wrap) or greaseproof paper shape up the texture with a cocktail stick, pin or whatever and leave to dry overnight. Voila Waterfall which can be tweaked to fit your scene.

Tried messing about with a few techniques last night. Discovered theGW water effect is not the best. Maybe time to pick up some woodland scenics I feel :p
Apologise for Lack of WIPs but have no net at home at the min.
