Here is my entry for the Rackham Tribute challenge we have been doing on the Dragon Painting Forum.

This has been fun to do, and seeing other excellent entries has spurred me on to get this finished.

Thanks to the guys on the Dragon Painting Forum for the encouragement. I have never attempted so much freehand, and to be honest
glad it's finished. I chose not to over do the parasol with shading and highlighting, to follow the old style of Japanese art.

I thought I would post in the forums for a change, as pictures tend to get more comments here. It is too late to change anything now, but wouldn't mind hearing any thoughts, good/bad, maybe for future projects.

must have been a pain to get rid of that book...
she turned out nice...
my favorite bit is the ogre on the parasol...
too cool...

I would like to get some you should do this type, show me where I went wrong.(registered users 8.5) so there is definitely room for a lot of improvement.

Would like to get others opinions here, as it is probably other things I am not seeing. I know its not a 10, but maybe an 8.9 at most, just my biased opinion there. ;)

let me know, I can then endeavour to improve my work on subsequent minis.

Well I can't tell you where you went wrong, and I gave you the ten. But I knocked it from a 9 to a ten base on the conversion. I wouldn't have known it was a conversion if not for this thread.

But dude, what's wrong with an 8.5? There's been golden demon winning models on here that have gotten less? I hardly think it's worth thinking twice about.

Almost anything around here I see above 8.5ish mark up to the 9.5ish mark has looked more or less the same technically. By that I mean very, very well done. But the "cool" factor of the style, model choice, scenic base, or soem other WOW factor usually seperates the two.

You've got what is essentially a model on a gaming base. It wasn't a well known model to me (meaning I didn't even know it was converted from looking at it) so some users might not take that into account. So here's what I think your model lacks that some other super high scoring stuff has....

-Simple base
-A model some may not appreciate
-Stylistically a theme some may not love as much as others.

So based solely on your painting, and not some of the other things many go for you scored an 8.5ish. That's a tremendous feat around here! Pat yourself on the back! It's fine to be dissapointed but I would give yourself some distance and look more to the valuable comments you got from people here who really enjoyed what you've done with the mini and worry less about the score (which is an awesome score anyway).

Just trying to answer the question you asked, not trying to be a jerk. I gave you a ten and commented as to why, so I hope that's cool

Thansk for taking the time to answer.

I only added the score to give some sort of gauge, thats all.

The only reason I kept on this type of base, you have it bang on she will be part of an army.

I think I took it for granted that people on here would know her stock mini, maybe I should have added a small pic of her original sculpt?

I didnt even think what a jerk, you took the time to read and post your thoughts, they are very valuable to me.

I will take what you have said and look at future projects.
