Weathering on Tanks

So, I\'m looking for two things here.

1. Reference pictures for weathering and battle damage on vehicles.

2. Ideas for how to get the effect

Basically, I want to do a Sisters of Battle Rhino but I need to weather it for the Wyrd painters competition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks. That should help.

Another question. How would you do paint scratches, kind of like the marks a genestealer would leave on the side of the tank

edit: That spacewolf Rhino is nicely done.

a fine pointed brush and thin paint!

personally, I wouldn\'t go with metallic paint.....then again is your Rhino black? in which case it\'s tricky.......

My chapter colour scheme is Bleached Bone armour with dark blue robes, so the rhino is going to be predominantly bone with blue highlights.

The plan for the genestealer is to have the tank driving over one, but the claw is going to be out with scratches down the side.

should be interesting if I can pull it off. Will probably start posting WIP pics on Monday to get some more help.

Aye, good luck with it, Hoblit. No chance with the Wyrd for me, damn painter\'s block...

>>Here<< is what Klute has to say about scratches and notches .

Hoblit, do some WW2 research. Tanks are filthy machines once they leave the motorpool. Boot tracks from the crew up to the hatches, grease, dust, mud. The tracks throw it everywhere. Got more than one tank? The one in front thows stuff all over the next one in the convoy.

ARGH - crap - I wrote a huge reply with a load of stuff, but I pressed new topic by accident, and it disappeared when I tried to go back :(

HOBLIT: If you want some wear and tear ideas PM me.

Has anyone tried the weathering stuff from Tamya yet? I\'ve seen some in my local modelling store, they\'ve got two sets of 3 colours each... I believe Snow/Rust/Dust/Soot/Grease/Mud... They seem to be of a similar consistency as eye-shadow (?) or brush-on lipstick... ???

PS: Nice work on that Rhino Orb

Cheers!

I read a review that yes, they are more eye shadowy (and thus greasy) than powdery......I\'d go with mig pigments myself
