Weirdboy WIP

i\'m painting the new ork Weirdboy, and i want to put him on an intimidating base, my Warboss and Mega-Armoured-Warboss are also mounted on impressive bases (I\'ll post pics of those as soon as i get home)

I was thinking about building something imperial, urban and possibly psyker-related. (or should i go for eldar??) I have already decided to remove the tire. at the front it will be replaced by a SM-helmet, at the back (under the Grot) i\'ll probably make a chared skeleton, with psychic power ebbing away...

i\'ll post WIP pics off the weird boy as i get home, as i would also like some colour advise for the SM-helmet....

plz, any suggestions you have are more then welcome, i know it\'s still a bit vague right now, but i hape that will clear up with pictures.

Well if you\'re going to do a frazzled marine, I\'d perhaps think of drilling out the eye pieces of the helmet - as though the power blew them out (If you wanted to go further, you could use some fine cotton wool to make them appear smoking)

Colourwise, pick a chapter and then scorch it brown and black :D

all made with miliput, plasticard and clear resin.

(BTW, the wraithbone is done using the new GW Washes....great stuff)

I hope this clears up what kind of a base i\'m planning to make.

@DaN: TY for the reply, i was thinking about a charred skeleton and just a SM-helmet though, and i was looking for a paintscheme for the helmet to complement or contrast the weirdboy himself.

I\'ve decided upon a base design.... it\'s going to be eldar.

someone on a different forum suggested making a sloping rock, and while not such a fan of simple rocks for imposing bases, i decided to do an eldar base with multiple levels.

Base.jpg

the smallest area, on the left will be highest, the dark grey area will be middle height and the bottom area will be lowest, that\'s were i intend to place the grot that (was) standing on the tyre, (i\'ll replace the tyre with a Frazzled skeleton though) as i can adjust the height of this grot....

I\'ll add the Eldar rune for Avatar (or Eldar, not sure, it features on the first page of the newest eldar codex, as well as on the chest of the avatar model) to the \"back\" of the base, surrounded by the runes for several of the aspects...

the aspect-runes will be sculpted into the floor, but i\'m not so sure about the large rune, should i:
A) draw a circle around it and sculpt it into the floor,
B) sculpt a sort of spirit stone out of the floor and then sculpt the rune into it, or,
C) sculpt the spiritstone and paint the Rune onto it

personaly, i think i favor option C, i might be able to do something nice with the spiritstone, and maybe an interesting effect on the rune. i was planning to paint the stone areas on the base like the wraithbone on the weirdboy, bleached bone with a multicolored glow-like effect. with maybe some kind of a glow in between the cracks.

so, let me know what you think.

and i hope more ppl will look at this post and leave a comment than have so far :(

PS. I collected all the Runes (all the interesting ones at least) from the 3rd and 4th ed. eldar codices, PM me if you would like a copy.....

Sounds like a great plan. I look forward to seeing the results. I actually just finished a similar base for one of my Mordhiem dwarfs. I wimped out and didn\'t hand carve any runes, though. I just went to Michaels and bought a piece of cheesy jewelry with some obscure looking rune-ish things. Pressed it into some Sculpey and called it good.

Good luck!

Oh... you might want to move this to the WIP forum. It\'s seems pretty active in there and you might get more feedback in there.

Was ur warboss standing ATOP the water on that marble base? :p

It\'s very good, but surely whatever figure goes on it would be placed on the steps themselves? :D

@DaN :

the left foot of the Warboss is on a SM helmet, and the right foot is on a Souldrinker SM....

does\'nt show too well on these pics, but i\'m planning to take better pics and make a voting page...

@arogers907:

how do i move it to the WIP section????

looks good so far, if you are now going with the eldar base i assume you arent worrying about the space marine head?

Another update :bouncy:

i\'m still using the SM head, he\'ll have his front foot (left foot) on it...

Weirdboy05.jpg
Weirdboy11.jpg

This is the weirdboy as it is now, i\'\'ve replaved the tyre with a SM helmet, and placed the Grot on a skeleton, i had the skeleton reach up to the grot\'s shoulder, with the grot looking down quite worried....

I\'m planning on painting the hide the weirdboy is wearing a light brown, still not sure what colour exactly....

i\'ve also decided that the grot\'s clothing will be black, highlighted to blood-red

i\'ve also painted one of the grot\'s skin, but i think i\'ll make it a bit lighter still...

i\'m still looking for an interesting colourscheme for the helmet, as well as trying to determine what color to use for the power on the skeleton, i know ork psy-power SHOULD be green, but the skin is quite incandescent green too, that\'s why i painted all the (sort of) OSL on the mini blue-white too, what do you think, should the ebbing warp-power on the skeleton be green (because he\'s an ork), or blue-white (to tie it in with the rest of the power)

weird17.jpg

This is the almost finished base, just some tweaking to do, mostly enhancing the runes, and smoothing out the gem/spiritstone...., i\'ll write a post how i made it tonight...

If you\'re gonna do OSL from different sources, then you complicate things by using different colours - I\'d keep them the same - after all it\'s the same power that fried him isn\'t it.

If you were to use different colours then you get into the whole \"Mixing light, but using paint\" problems...

ie. Light - Green + Red = Yellow
Paint - Green + Red = Messy brown

the osl should be the same as on the lower orb on the staff.

i\'m planning to give a sort of glow from the blue eye as well

on the skeleton it will be a sort of backlighting, with the brightest color in the lowest parts (in between the ribs) and going through blue to bone for the skeleton....

the same effect will be used on the left hand (centred on the handpalm) and maybe on the higher orb of the staff too
