Weirdness with the GW Trolls...

It\'s interesting the experiences people have had with returning bits to GW - I\'ve had a similar experience in store - I bought a Blackstone Fortress in a sale and had a bit missing - took it back and was given a complete new kit - offered them the old one back and was told to keep it.

As far as the mail order problems are concerned I would be very surprised if they wanted anything returned - if the error was theirs they would be obliged to pay postage for you to return the goods - add on to that the cost of restocking the item(s) and then compare that to the original costs involved in manufacture - they would be well out of pocket.
So I doubt anyone needs to be over concerned about keeping their errors (or any other mini makers). - Even Finn:rolleyes:

i have to say that im very impressed with the service you get from mail order. been buying mini\'s from them for 10 years and although you may get the odd missing part or miscast the service is top knotch!
i havent been as lucky to get loads of free stuff but they dont hesitate to send the missing part free of charge.

tip: if your cheeky enough and you buy a large order then they will probably throw in a few freebies, going from past experience.

Someone I know ordered some 40£ of Battlefleet Gothic... Half of the order was missing, he called and then he received more than 200£ extra!

ps. How many of you have ever even considered returning the minis you got that you didn\'t order? Did you feel like you deserved what you didn\'t pay for? Just curious.

One of my friends bought the GW\'s 99 annual report... D\'you want to know how much R. Priestley was paid that year (excl.stock options)? 125 000 £...

Then what about one mini?

sounds like an excuse to me.

I hadn\'t thought about the cost of getting the mis-sent mini back to GW. I suppose in most cases it would not be worth the effort. But SOME of the cases listed above were expensive losses to GW. I wouldn\'t be able to overcome my shame long enough to prime one mini I didn\'t pay for. Even from a million dollar corp like GW.

ps When it comes to honesty doesn\'t matter if GW throws money away, it\'s still not honest to keep what isn\'t yours. If a man gives you a million dollars then you reach in his wallet and take an extra dollar you are a theif. While the money is theirs it is theirs to spend however poorly they want to.

I admire your sentiments but...

By your high standards there can\'t be a person in the Western World who isn\'t a thief.

can you honestly tell me you have never made a call on the firms phone, used a works envelope, photocopied something of your own on the photocopier, used their fax, \'borrowed\' a paperclip or a pencil.

Whilst I agree with you in principle, in reality, I must be public enemy No 1 because i have done all of the above, as well as retaining figures sent to me cos GW screwed up. But I can live with that. I will still sleep well tonight.

Actually, you\'re right.

First of all, I was making a simple observation about not sending minis back. The posters on this thread wrote as though they never even considered it an option. I brought up the point and it turns out that most of them had considered what they should do with the mini. So I was wrong on that point.

I will also conceed that most people take little things here and there, an envelope from the boss, an extra 15 minutes at lunch, a long distance call on someone else\'s phone... and, if they haven\'t been given permission this is stealing. I am guilty too. But surely you will conceed that the \"friend\" mentioned above who was given a second order totalling $400.00 by mistake was wrong to not at least inquire about what he should do with it?

So where do you draw the line? Is there a monetary amount that is allowable to steal? Should the line be movable for each situation, and if so, who gets to move it? Or should we do away with the notion of stealing altogether and say that everything belongs to everybody? This will get difficult, to say the least.

I, personally, think it is better to say all of the examples you mentioned are theives, even if this includes me, than to say none of them are. And the next time I go to call my wife on company time I\'ll take a break and use my cell phone.

Hahhahahahaha!!

You sound so self righteous it\'s ludicrous, Barkel!!

If you really are this way in all you do I truly pity you...spend more time living and less time looking over your shoulder!

I imagine a lot of people may think I\'m a prick for writing this but geeze, man, come on! I suppose there are a few puritans out there who really do no wrong, but I think the real problem is INTENT.

Did whoever it was INTEND to screw GW by calling and reporting their order was missing when it was just held up in delivery? Likely not, though I\'m certain it does happen.

I think that it\'s a courtesy to inform whoever has provided you a service of any mistakes, either to your benefits or their own...but it\'s just that, a courtesy, not a requirement. Should a decent person do it? Yes, I think they should, and I do so regularly, but I\'m not the one who gets to decide what decent is, or how people should act...and neither are you...

I am no puritan.

Ok I read my last post and I did sound like an ass. I\'m not an ass, really. But still, if I did not get my order I would call GW. Then, if I got my order in the mail TWICE, I would send the second one back. It\'s not courtesy, it\'s right.

Did whoever it was intend to screw GW by calling and asking for their order to be corrected? NO and don\'t even PRETEND that I implied it. They screwed GW when they got their order twice and did NOTHING to remedy the situation.

Now, as I mentioned before, most of the folks in this thread did call GW or their store and they were told to keep the mini. That\'s fine, I certainly would keep something that was GIVEN to me, but if you know you have something by mistake and you don\'t call to find out what to do about it you are INTENTIONALLY keeping what isn\'t yours.

And don\'t think that because I TRY to live a life that is above reproach that 1. I succeed, that 2. it means I live my life looking over my shoulder or that 3. I live a dull life. By the time I was 10 I had a pretty clear understanding of right and wrong. Occassionally, like today, a situation comes along that is gray. That\'s why we debate.

And I\'ve had it just about up to here with people who make fun of people for wanting to be good. It\'s soooooo unCOOL to want to be good that half of the world would rather be bad. Well I think that sucks. You call me a Puritan because you know it brings up images of shoe buckle wearing fanatics who can\'t get anything accomplished for all of their debate about the wrong way to do things. Well dammit, I\'m tired of it. I do try to be good and I will make no excuse for it. You call me self righteous, but I\'m not. I have my flaws and I am aware of them, but I don\'t try to makes excuses for them.

What I do try to do is correct them in myself. And excuse me if I assumed that others might feel the same way.

Chill Barkel...

Your contribution was thoughtful and a valuable counterbalance to some of the more venal responses posted.

I think the notion expressed by Finn17 that morality judgements are variable and based on the relationship of both parties - ie it\'s ok to rip of GW but not Heresy is very interesting

this begs the question - what turnover does a company have to reach to become fair game?

I\'ve had some odd experiances with the Trolls. I placed acoplaint about a missing Killa Kan arm and got the arm, the claw, and three Tyranid spore mines with it.

Now, the claw and arm I can see as a simple mistake, but three minis from another army just puzzles the heck out of me.

My only problem with this is that I\'ve now got three nid spore mines floating in my bitz box, and I\'ve got absolutly no Idea what to do with the things.

Strangly I have seen a lot odder stuff than the two armies. One of the people in my gameing group opened a blister only to discover that he had only half the minis body in the box. That\'s notthe oddestthing though. The body is supposed to be all one peice.
